I switched from a Fitbit Versa 2 to a Garmin Venu 2S.The functionality of the watch itself in my opinion so far is pretty good. Tracks steps more accurately than my Fitbit did, the sleep and stress trackers provide some fun insights and the ability to track different times activities is nice. I've worn the watch in water before (though still prefer not to) and it shows no sign of damage from the water as it's designed to be waterproof.Battery life is ok. Started really well but as of now I find I have to charge it every 3 days or so and I've been going into battery saving mode more often.The watch band however did snap a piece off fairly easily and I had to replace it with a spare I had from a different watch band.App-wise: the Garmin Connect app has challenges, a home screen to track fitness info and the ability to connect with other users. Unfortunately the Connect IQ store is slow in my experience and downloading apps, changing watch faces from the store and updates can be painful.I do enjoy the customization I can do by using an online watch face builder to make my own themed watch faces.

I was looking at Fitbit and Samsung. Fitbits look kind of cheap but all else is solid, Samsung Galaxy is a flashy looking watch but the battery life is terrible (less than a day). Garmin is a great middle ground. I got the Venu 2 and I love the style, has a bright OLED screen, decent selection of watch faces, solid features including fitness tracking, and most importantly a battery life of 5+ days. Syncs well with my Android.

Edit Aug 2022: Scratched my watch, apparently glass doesn't react well to granite counter tops. Contacted Garmin to see if I could pay to replace the screen, customer service said the watch would need to be replaced and it's not covered under warranty BUT THEY'LL REPLACE IT FOR FREE ANYWAYS!

Amazing customer service. I've been really happy with this watch as it's comparable to Samsung/Apple but specs are way better like the 5+ day battery life, and now incredible their customer service has earned them a life long customer.

Came straight here to update my review as I'm still in a bit of awe, especially after being so disappointed that I scratched the beautiful black display. I now highly recommend Garmin.

I has a VivoActive 3 for years and it needed upgrading after failing to charge properly.
I bought a Garmin Venu 2S which was really nice, until the strap let go and it fell off somewhere and was lost. This Venue Sq was a cheaper replacement.
Specifics:
* The charge holds well, seems to last about 4 to 5 days on average. (Depends on GPS tracking etc etc).
** The Heart Rate monitor is accurate IF you select a work out function. So if you work out and don't select one of the options, it seems to average the HR over several minutes, so the display is never accurate "real time". If you select an app (say CArdio) the HR monitoring is real time and seems very good.
***The text is small even though its a square face, I thought it would be larger than a round face, it isn't.
****If you use it for resistance training the tracking is OK for reps, but selecting the weights you used is plain awful. You seem to need to scroll and scroll to get the required number to enter. Really poor design.

Summary:
Overall it works well enough. Cant say Im blown away, but its not horrible either .

This a review of a watch that I bought for my mother. Here are her words:
I got this watch in December and have enjoyed it a lot. I love that I don't have to take my cell phone with me on our walks or hikes. During each walk/hike, the watch itself tracks steps, elevation, distance, heart rate, etc.
I had to stop using the watch at night for sleep tracking because the silicone band that came with the watch caused the skin irritation. I am in the process of looking for another band so that I can keep the watch on my wrist all the time.
However, the watch and the cell phone app are absolutely great. The watch synchs with the cell phone seemlessly and so all the information is always available to me when I want to check my progress.
I love the idea of challenges and so I've joined a number of them and that keeps me motivated to continue walking to get the steps in.
I have to charge the battery every 4-7 days. I don't mind that as it charges really quickly.
I've used most of its features already, even at work when I need to set a timer or an alarm. Also it lets me check the message notifications and decide if something is important for me to respond right away.
It is a great watch that I will continue to enjoy for a long time!

It’s a nicer size than my old Garmin, which was essentially a smaller man’s watch.

This is definitely pretty. (And PURPLE - my favourite colour!)

It’s comparable to the Fitbit, which I also like, but the Garmin has better tracking for race training.

I think for every day I’d wear the Fitbit, but for training/racing I’d definitely use the Garmin.

Note: steps measured on Fitbit and a Garmin differ slightly. (I wore them both at once to check.)

I did have some difficulty with connecting the watch to my phone after doing an update. It showed as connected in my phone bluthooth setting, but the watch said not connected.

Always on my wrist, always monitoring my sleep and very great to monitor my training, that being running or weight lifting. I also use it to track my golf rounds and I am obsessed with the app showing you where you took your shots and everything. It is a really handy watch, not an Apple Watch with applications and stuff to act as a smartphone, it's more of a self development and self monitoring watch. It can last up to 10 days without using GPS

I've had this watch for a couple days now and overall it's a great watch. It has a long lasting battery. I recharge it every night and it's never below 87% at the end of the day. The heart rate monitor is very accurate and syncs with the connect app quickly. As a pedometer it does the job well and it helps me meet my step goals. I do wish that it would display images from my phone notifications. It was a useful feature on my old Samsung gear watch, but it's not a deal-breaker for me.

The watch strap feels durable and lightweight. It's comfortable to wear. I can see this watch outlasting my Samsung gear watch.
