Do I Need an RV Backup Camera?

1. Increased Safety when Backing up

The bigger your RV, the harder it is to see every angle, particularly while you’re sitting in the cab of your vehicle. An RV camera system provides greater safety as you back your camper into a parking space or campsite, making it easier to avoid trees, poles and other vehicles. It also gives you visibility if a child or other person enters the area.

2. Enhanced Observation on the Road

RV cameras can also provide observation capabilities while driving, especially when they allow for 360-degree views. You can see everything around you while traveling down the road, reducing blind spots to help avoid collisions. And if you want to take your RV into a tighter-than-normal space, the 360-degree view can help you navigate with precision.

3. Greater Security When Parked

The right vehicle cameras don't stop performing just because you’re parked. Furrion cameras can continue to capture the area around your trailer or RV, so you know exactly what's outside and can rest peacefully inside.

Park-Assist Lines

Backing your camper into the site just got easier! With the rear assist marker lines on the screen, you can easily guide your trailer into place as you back up. Toggle the lines on and off as needed.

Built-In Microphone

Vision S not only provides a visual, but the camera also has a microphone to allow you to listen for backup instructions from a friend, hear nearby children or animals, and even keep an ear out for intruders.

Motion Detection

Rest assured that Vision S has your back, featuring motion detection and a security camera auto-wake function that promotes maximum security for your RV, any time of the day or night, on every adventure.

Doorway Security / Rear Camera

Product description

Backing in and blind spots are some of the more intimidating aspects of driving an RV. That's why the Furrion Vision S vehicle observation system was designed to make your RVing experience safer and more enjoyable. The wide viewing angle offers more visibility for merging and parking, and the rear assist marker lines guide you during reversing, reducing the chance of hitting a hidden obstacle. Infrared night vision technology offers you a crisp nighttime view since traveling doesn’t always stop at sunset. And when you are parked at your resting spot for the night, the motion-activated and auto-wake features mean your camera system acts as an observation and security system. The built-in mic and ability to record on an SD card allow you to capture what happens outside of your RV while sleeping. The Vision S features a multi-angled view when mounted on your windshield. Other mounting options include an interior table stand or wall mount (sold separately). Experience up to four camera views at once on the monitor (extra cameras sold separately). With more awareness of your fellow drivers, over-the-road traveling is a safer experience for everyone.

After a purchasing a Furrion "compatible" back up camera for our RV and being quite disappointed (which we promptly returned) we decided to go with an original Furrion since our RV was pre-wired. It is absolutely plug & play - we had the camera installed and the monitor set up in less 20 minutes. The monitor (ours is the 5" model) is beautiful quality; light and easy to attach to the windshield. Although it is capable of using up to 4 cameras, we are only using it for one at the rear of the unit. We've recently used it for parking our RV and it worked perfectly, giving a large field of view. It also has an audio function where the driver can easily hear someone at the back of the unit providing direction if needed, so the microphone has good pickup. In theory, that person could converse with the driver but, for me (the directing person), the camera speaker is too high to clearly hear anything being said. May work well for someone who doesn't have hearing issues though. Although the cost was considerably higher than the original "compatible" kit we ordered, I think it was ultimately worth the money. I would recommend the Furrion Vision S, particularly if you have a pre-wired RV.

This wireless camera worked perfectly. I installed it on the back of a 40 ft fifth wheel. I synced the camera and monitor before mounting the camera. Clear video and sound.

Wish they would have sent better mounting screws, they were to short .

Very good pic quality, the mic is very strong you can hear everything I needed to turn the volume while driving, but great getting directions from your marshaller. The only problem I had was my 5th wheel from Grand Design witch came pre-wired for the Furrion camera was wired with polarity backwards so the camera didn't work at first(not a furrion problem)but you can test the camera with pig tail that powers the monitor very easy to use.

A bit pricey for what you get considering how cheap technology is now but works good as a rear observation camera on our truck camper. We have been using this for going on 4 years and it still works good. The 5" screen is adequate but I wish we would of spent the extra money and got the other model with the larger screen. Sync this with the included cable before installing the camera or you will get a choppy intermittent picture on the screen. When it is unboxed it seems to be synced but it is only roughly synced and will give you a choppy picture unless you use the cable to sync before installation. Trust me on this and avoid problems because you will have to uninstall the camera to sync it properly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have!

Our new travel trailer came with the mounting for this camera so we bit the bullet and purchased this camera.

Having a view behind you is a huge stress reliever! Well worth every penny.

We mounted the camera on the back of the trailer where indicated. As mounted, we have only a very small blind spot on the left and right of the vehicle and trailer where the side mirrors don't pick up traffic.

The night view is excellent, as are the colors and visibility during the day. The option to upgrade with additional side cameras is a huge plus which will take advantage of in the upcoming years.

The kit came with all the necessary mounting hardware and cabling to mount ourselves but didn't have to use it since our trailer already had the mounting bracket installed. The instructions looked fairly simple but can't speak to the ease of installation without the pre-installed mounting bracket.

Most definitely worth the money. And will be moving the camera to our next trailer when it's time to upgrade campers.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!

This may be the best gadget we have purchased for camping! We were getting pretty good at backing the 25' travel trailer into sites, now we are pros. Driving down the highway on a 4 lane means no blind spots so passing/being passed is no longer a white knuckle moment, even with extended mirrors. Video quality is great, install was super simple as the camper was pre-equipped with the shark fin mount. Power was already there - just plugged in the camera and it's powered when the running lights are on. Monitor size is adequate, could have gone with the large unit but that was way more money. Highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice tool that works, but expensive.

I love this camera, but more for driving than for backing. I use this camera for knowing there is someone behind my trailer while going down the road, and to know that I have cleared them while passing. The system doesn't reverse the picture so it's not displayed as if you were looking in your rearview mirror ( in the picture, cars pass on your right because the camera is facing backwards). When backing, it is more useful to use for proximity to things behind you than for using as your sole backing view and guide. Another reason this is true is because the camera lens is a fisheye, which distorts distance judging. For real time driving, there is also a slight delay in your view that is noticeable at interstate speeds. Passing vehicles are are already up by my tow vehicle when the camera view has them at the back of your trailer. You have to learn and adjust for this. For the camera to be on while driving in the daytime, you have to turn on your park lights. Although mounted in a solid frame, the camera is adjustable for height. You can have your trailer bumper in the picture, or raise it up to see the horizon and approaching vehicles as there are multiple position indents that hold the camera solid. If your RV has a ladder, you can quickly change camera level by going a couple rungs up your ladder. The picture quality is good and it comes up very fast. I have seen no examples of picture interference in one summer of frequent use. I wipe the lens off when washing the RV, but after driving in rain, it still has a surprisingly decent picture. It auto swaps to night-vision, which makes the infrared illumination light up bugs and particles like snow in the picture.
If you have the money to spend on this expensive camera then get it, but get at least the mid-size viewing screen.

I powered them up and immediately it was working perfectly. I then installed the camera on the back of the trailer then got back in the truck plugged the monitor in and turned on the lights to power the camera and it was working perfectly. This is just a cheap insurance for when I pull in for gas and if I need to back up it’s done safely now. We’ve been towing trailers for over 50 years and I’m ashamed it took this long to just make things work so much easier.
