[REVIEW REMARKS]
This is a really compact game that is great to play with 2-4 players. We tested it playing with two players and it was a really quick game to learn and play.
The box is compact and it would be easy to pack up and take with you for a game on the go. The game board is the size of the box and it comes in a single board that is non-folded. The board does lay flat, but you do require a table space or flat surface to be able to roll the dice.
The concept is quite unique. It reminds me if you combined Yahtzee®️ with the sport of hockey. The dice are the game movers and decision makers. The rules are simple to follow, however, you need a few games under your belt to be able to play without consulting the rules.
The dice are well made and they seem balanced. The iconology on the pieces is easy to follow and they are not difficult to read, if you require glasses. The tokens are made from gloss-coated cardboard (similar weight and thickness of the gameplay board). Although these pieces are seemingly well made and the die cut is a clean cut and easy to remove from the cardboard cut-out, I would have preferred these to be made from plastic or resin. The pieces would have a longer lifespan. These cannot get wet at all. So, keeping the playing surface free from moisture is key.
All in all, the board and game pieces are decent quality and should last with normal use. The box is very well designed and offers are great storage medium for the game and pieces between gameplay session.
The learning curve on this game is not overly difficult to comprehend and the play time is approximately 15-20 minutes if you are engaged in the game, longer if you are socializing during play. This game is suitable for the recommended 7+years, but as an adult, I found this game to be fun to play. I recommend this to hockey fans, as it is a unique way to celebrate the sport without getting "jerseyed". It is truly a fun way to pass time and the quality is excellent. The size of the board is smaller, and for me, that is a good thing. However, exercise care when putting the game away, you do not want to lose any of the pieces as they are paramount to be able to play the game.
Recommended based on quality of the pieces, the price point at ordering ($13.60) was an excellent value, the quality of time it creates playing is mentionable, and easy gameplay for all ages over 7. Highly recommended.
In the event that experiences change or evolve, updates may be made to this review to address such developments.
It was pretty fun, although it took us 50 minutes instead of 15 (as they suggested) to get through one game! However, I am sure it won't take as long after we get used to the rules and play it a few more times. Regardless, this could easily be turned into a drinking game as well.
There are a couple of rules that weren't too clear, like when and how you can reroll your dice when it lands on a "check". Honestly, can you only reroll them when those are your highest count? Or whenever they land on a "check"? Can you reroll them regardless of how high of a pairing your opponent has? Yeah, this was the only issue we had with the game so we decided to choose a way and stuck with that. (FYI, our method: Regardless of opponents roll, reroll your "check" dice if they are tied or larger in number than your other pairings).
The quality of it is mostly all cardboard cutouts except for the dice. But it is a high-quality, stiff cardboard and comes with a pretty solid box. The dice are a nice, standard hard plastic that feel good in the hands when rolling.
The instructions are pretty simple to read other than some initial confusion and that bit I mentioned above, but it got a lot easier as the game went on. There is a lot to keep in mind with this game!
Anyways, for 15 bucks, this game is worth it in my opinion. Great for the cottage, hotel or hockey night with friends.
(Oh! It was pretty much a tie game, with me playing catch up to her… Until the third period where I took the lead! 😈)
(Double Oh! Another thing we ran into, although not necessarily a huge problem, was near the end of the third period, my wife wasn’t able to win as she was two goals behind and the game would only allow 1 more shot. Not a big deal, pretty much a stalemate situation for her. So, the game can end before it actually is supposed to finish. This is the way though. 🤷♂️)
