My old (very old) shredder was a simple strip cut model and had been broken for quite some time, needless to say when I received the 79ci I had quite a stack of "to be shredded" paperwork built up to put it through it's paces. I am not disappointed. This thing chews through way thicker stacks of paper than my old one ever did, I no longer have to remove staples and other junk from the paper, and it never got bogged down or jammed once while I was on my shredding spree.
I found the maximum sheets per pass specification accurate, though some unusually thicker papers like my stack of service invoices from the car dealership were particularly thick and I had to reduce the number of sheets in this case. The good news is that the thickness sensor actually works, whenever I attempted to feed it more than it it liked it just simply would not engage and the sensor display on the right would just light up red to let me know that I was being too ambitious. The safety sensor works perfectly as well, if you touch anywhere around the entry slot with your hand a warning LED lights up and disables the shredder. I have little kids, so I don't plan on leaving it plugged in between uses regardless, but it's nice to know that there is an extra layer of security built in and my previous shredder had nothing of the sort. I found the shredded results to be accurate in size to what Fellowes advertises and haven't come across any unshredded material or partially stuck together bits of paper yet.
This shredder is very quiet, even though I was shredding way more than before and turning it into much smaller pieces of paper, it is way quieter than my old shredder. The design of the unit as a whole is subtle and attractive enough that I don't feel like it needs to be completely hidden from view between uses. I like that it's on casters so I can just roll it out from under my desk when I plan on going on a shredding marathon and roll it back (this thing is really heavy). The bin itself is easy to slide out from under the shredding head so you don't have to ever lift anything but the paper bin with this shredder.
I only have one minor complaint and that is that there is no clear way to secure the top of the shredding bag around the top of the bin on the interior front so the front of the bag droops down in the machine unless you wrap it around the exterior of the bin (which is ugly). To be fair this hasn't actually turned out to be a problem with paper not making it's way into the bags yet but some kind of little interior lip to hold the bag at the front would have been nice. I likely won't even bother continuing to buy bags after the small bunch the shredder came with are used up and just dump the contents of the bin directly into my recycling bin anyway.
