1. Actual savings and costs will vary considerably based on print tasks, print volumes and usage conditions. Savings and cost per ISO page are based on the cost of replacement ink bottles and the cost of enough standard cartridges to achieve the total page yields of the bottles using the MSRP (USD) and yields for Epson standard-capacity ink cartridges for similarly featured Epson consumer inkjet printers as of May 2021.

2. Part of the ink from the included bottles is used for initial setup; yields are lower than those of replacement ink bottles. Replacement and included ink bottle yields based on the ISO/IEC 24712 pattern with Epson’s methodology. Actual ink yields will vary considerably for reasons including images printed, print settings, temperature and humidity. Yields may be lower when printing infrequently or predominantly with one ink colour. All ink colours are used for printing and printer maintenance, and all colours must be available for printing. For more information, visit www.epson.ca/inkinfo. 3. Individual cartridges estimate based on print yields of a replacement set of black and colour ink bottles as compared to Epson standard-capacity ink cartridges for similarly featured printers as of May 2021.

4. Based on average monthly document print volumes of about 200 pages. 5. See www.epson.ca/voice for device compatibility. Epson Connect account and voice-activated account registration required. 6. Most features require an Internet connection to the printer, as well as an Internet- and/or email-enabled device. For a list of Epson Connect enabled printers and compatible devices and apps, visit www.epson.ca/connect. 7. Requires Epson Smart Panel App download. Data usage fees may apply. 8. 12 months of standard ltd. wnty or 50,000 plain paper sheets (whichever happens first). For an additional 12-month extended service plan (total of 24 months or 50,000 plain paper sheets, whichever happens first), you must register your product and use Epson genuine ink bottles. Okay printer... not the best quality

Okay printer... not the best quality
Printer is small sized and has a nice look. It was easy to set up. However, it's the colors are quite faint and poor quality pictures.Very slow in printing and takes longer time to initiate the print. In the attached photo you can see the faint colors compared to a laser jet hp printer, which has brighter more vibrant colors.Keep in mind that although the ink for this printer is cheaper than a typical laser jet printer, you have to constantly use it or the ink will clot and have to be cleaned. It needs more maintenance on the long run than other printers.I did not like overall.

Finally a printer with no ink cartridges! I downloaded the installation app on my iPhone and followed the step by step “chat” style directions and bam!… installation was flawless. The only issue was wifi connection with my 5g router. It’s didn’t work so I switched to 2.4g and when smooth after. Filling up the ink in the printer was really slick. No mess. The printer even controlled how much ink was poorer in. Just like gassing you car at the gas tank, when is was full, the ink stopped flowing. Very cool. Printing is a bit slow for full colour images but for the price of this printer is well worth the wait. Installing on our Macs was very easy. It came with a CD for Windows (so 1990s!). Just get a Mac! Anyway, I love my Epson. This is how consumer electronics experience should be like.

I enjoy being able to print from my phone, scan and e-mail documents. Photo print is better than average. Doing copies is slow. Very satisfied of this one printer. Ink saving is remarkable.

First impression from this printer is "wow that thing is small!" This must be the smallest office printer in existence. It is smaller even than my current printer, a Canon MX870 which is a home-use printer.

Here's the summary: this is not an office printer. It is way too small, it is way too slow, way too difficult to use via the tiny touch-screen display, and it doesn't do double-side scanning/copying. Also, there is no manual-feed paper tray. And it is way too expensive for what it is. It does, however, work well as home-use printer and maybe a home office printer for light duty, provided you can afford it.

My current printer is a Canon MX870: I bought that thing almost 15 years ago for about $200 and it has been printing all this time. It is still printing, and well, but all drivers for it are either long-since defunct or about to become so, and it is increasingly difficult to find cartridges for it at a reasonable price: the Canon ones are long since discontinued, and the third-party ones are twice the price they should be when they can even be found.

The Epson ET-4850 is meant to be a direct replacement for the Canon. Imagine my surprise when this printer costs almost 3x as much while providing roughly the same features. Also, I was quite surprised to see that a supposedly "office use printer" can't print from or scan to a thumb drive. This one had me scratching my head: why? With this printer it's The Cloud or nothing. Also, its ADF cannot do duplex scanning, which the Canon was perfectly able to do as a home-use printer. That's a bummer, but any other current generation printer in this category and price range, including from Canon, is equally unable to do double-side ADF scanning. And don't get me even started on the lack of manual-feed paper tray: I am guessing offices nowadays don't print envelopes anymore?

So while the printer is really nice and is faster than my Canon, especially in duplex printing, it is part of a trend I've been observing with a lot of electronics: things are getting more expensive for the features they deliver. I enjoy printing and scanning from the cloud, mostly because I hated running around with a thumb drive to do so with the Canon (since its scanner driver is dead), but I am surprised I now need a second device to do that. I am hoping against hope of a similar longevity from the Epson, but something tells me the Canon would outlive it too. This one is way too dependent on cloud-based services which Epson Connect integrates for you. In other words, this printer becomes a brick when Epson decides to drop it.

EDIT: Double-side scanning and copying is possible from the glass, but not the ADF. Printing envelopes is possible from the paper tray once you remove all the paper. The printer only has a radio for the 2.4Ghz band, which doesn't like sharing it with 802.11G devices, such as my Canon. Also, it doesn't like the beamforming feature on the current crop of Wifi access points/routers: it thinks it is getting a poor Wifi signal when no one is talking to it. Like many people, I justified the high price for this printer with the ability to take ink from bottles, which puts original Epson ink on par with the off-brand cartridges I was getting for the Canon, but that's not quite correct: the Epson printer has something called "a maintenance box", which is a consumable item apparently and has to be replaced periodically. Not sure what that is, or why it is a consumable item. Bottom line is even after all this money we are not quite doing away with the expensive proprietary consumables here, begging the question why buy this printer to begin with.

There are significantly cheaper printers out there with almost identical specs that work with traditional cartridges. You may want to look at those first, then look into adding an aftermarket CISS if you really insist on having one for some reason. Don't get me wrong, printer works, printer is awesome, but you can get more bang for buck with something else.

EDIT 2: I am giving up on this printer's Wifi capabilities. It just won't stay connected. Every few weeks it would silently drop off from the Wifi and would not even attempt to reconnect. All I can do to get it working again is restart it, until the next time this happens. I just hardwired it so hoping this would make a difference.

I had an issue with my printer out of the box. I called tech support to help get it set up and was told that it was defective/malfunctioning. However, instead of an apology / customer service, I had to provide extensive pictures to prove that it was defective. Following that, I was told that I could use the 'warranty' and send them more money as a security deposit for the replacement. WHAT? I got a broken printer and you want me to pay more to get a working one? What a crazy concept.
In fairness, I really liked the idea of refillable ink and bought a similar product at costco where (if I have a problem) I can return it directly without headaches. The product was a dud (that happens, no big deal) but the customer service made me blow a gasket. Buyer beware.

I keep seeing commercials about this printer on the television. I reviewed my own printer and the cost of always buy a lot of ink throughout the year. When you break everything down and looking at different options it is a NO BRAINER!!!!

I started looking at the EPSON ET-4850 ECOTANK and it was a eye opener and I decided that I would make a big purchase and order myself one. To have a printer that comes with two years work of ink is incredible.

If anyone is thinking of making a purchase like this. DO IT. I have been enjoying my new printer and I recommend this to everyone.

Have A Great Day!!!!! JOSH

Excellent printer, easy set up, the ink tanks are easy to fill.
A real change from all the other cappy printers I have bought.
It comes with a CD, but you don't need it (most computers don't have a CD drive any more).
Just go to Epson's website, search for this model and down load the set up File.
Once you run that program, everything just works.

This is the best printer I’ve ever had. It is so easy to use and the large paper tray is really convenient. Prints quality is great. It is very easy to connect and print from my computer and phone. Smaller size than my last terrible Canon printer with a tray, loader, etc. Good overall value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid printer, great ink usage

I initially had trouble with network discovery on my wi-fi network, particularly with Apple Airprint. I was on the verge of returning the printer since I had no such issues with my old Brother printer, which finally needed replacing after 9 years (due to software incompatibility btw, not any hardware defect). Luckily, I refused to believe that my Android, Apple, and Windows devices would all have trouble connecting. So, I checked a couple of forums and discovered it was my router's configuration that was the culprit. I made the adjustments (disabling airtime fairness and making sure to a single SSID for 2.4GHz and 5Ghz, in case you are having a similar issue) and bang, it was working. Using a static IP speeds discovery using the Epson app, but ultimately isn't necessary. Once working, the printer is everything other reviews say. It's little slow, particularly scanning at higher resolution, slightly loud, but very solid with good quality. Ink usage is amazing. My wife just started a class and has been printing hundreds of pages a week, since that is her preference. I have not seen the ink level budge. I truly believe that we would already have burned through the "starter" cartridges on a $99 printer and would be paying at least another $100 for genuine refills. That has been my experience in the past, even with the Brother. I believe we will break even at the 1.5-2 year mark, without any need to touch the printer. One other note: If you are concerned about the printer heads drying out during periods of low usage, just set up a scheduled monthly full-color print job. That should keep the heads moist and it won't make a dent in your ink supply. This is fairly simple on a Windows machine, although I have no experience scheduling tasks on any other OS.

5.0 out of 5 stars More expensive to buy, but inexpensive to run.

I like the print quality, and I like the refillable ink, which will greatly reduce the long-term cost of this printer.

The setup was a little confusing. There a three tracks, the paper instructions, the phone App, and the Menu on the printer. Sometimes it was not clear which one had the right next step, but I got through it.

I was worried about the refill process and possibly spilling ink. I should not have worried. This printer has special shaped nozzles for each color, so you can't really put the wrong color in the wrong place, and the mechanism makes it easy to load the ink with a good seal, so there is no spillage.

It is too early to say how reliable it is, but early results are great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good printer
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2023

This is my 2nd EcoTank Printer Overall I love them and would give the 4.3 stars
Pros:
The ink lasts a really long time. I print a lot of pages and the ink can last me up to 6 months. You can use "off-market" ink and your ink cost will be nil so the printer is worth it.
Wireless, fax, scanning and Auto Document Feeder (ADF) great for at home business use.
I like that everything closes up to keep the dust out as well. It makes it look boxy, but who cares.
Touch screen.
Set up is ridiculously easy with your phone and you can download the software for printing apps onto your laptop/desktop.
CONS:
My biggest/only issue with them is the flimsy materials/moving parts.
This is replacing an ET-4500 and it had the same issue. 2 weeks ago the part that holds the paper just fell. It wasn't being overburdened w/ paper it just fell and there was no part replacement for it so I had to get this one.
In this model, they have increased the size & position of the paper tray and the output tray. The output tray is built different so it is stronger than in the ET4500, but the plastic should be much more sturdier for both trays. Just moving it back and forth I realize that I have to be careful. This is my only issue w/ this product.
Also word to the wise. You should print something, even just a test page, at least once a week. This, imho, keeps the ink from drying up and clogging the nozzle.

I don't consider the price to be a sticking point b/c when you look at how much you save in ink over the long hall, the printer pays for itself in a years time vs. hunting for the exact ink cartridge.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke my Network
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2024
Colour Name: WhiteStyle: ET-4850Verified Purchase
I purchased this Epson printer because I was looking for a good wireless printing option for my home. It arrived the next day, and I proceeded to set it up
The setup process was fairly straightforward but somewhat wonky - the machine had trouble finding my network, even though it was placed one foot from the wireless router. After manually entering the IP address, the machine was able to print from my computer, but was never able to print from my wife's computer - ten feet away in an adjacent room (also with a wireless satellite nearby).
Once the printer was set up (with only one device - my desktop computer), it started throwing the multiple Sonos speakers off the network, breaking the connection between my TV and the network, etc. etc.
How do I know it was the Epson that futzed with the network? Because if I turned the printer off, or unplugged it, the wireless connections were immediately restored. (I tried this experiment three times over the four days I possessed the printer, and each time had the same result).
I called tech support, and they were useless (unplug your modem, your router and unplug all devices connected to the router, blah blah), offering up the sort of info that anyone remotely familiar with networking word have already done, but offered up zero suggestions.
I have returned the printer.
