From the manufacturer

THE LONG STORY

First released in 1981, Tortex Picks were originally intended to be a high quality replacement for tortoiseshell. Jim Dunlop’s trail-blazing creation became so much more than that, however, establishing its own identity and becoming the new standard by which all other picks are judged.

Building on the precision, consistency, and color-coded gauge system he introduced with Nylon Picks, Jim resolved to create a pick with a bright and snappy attack, superior memory and durability, and an improved grip. He chose Delrin as his base material and then spent more than a year developing a special treatment process to draw out its full potential. This treatment process is what sets Tortex Picks apart from all others, providing their unique grip-enhancing matte surface and aggressive attack. Finally, Jim expanded on his previous picks’ color-coded gauge system to create the bright and timeless palette.

With Tortex, Jim Dunlop launched a revolution, and the world of picks has never been the same. The turtle logo is instantly recognizable, and the vibrant Tortex palette has become a gauging shorthand for guitar players. Go into any music store and ask for Green or Yellow Picks—chances are, you’ll be shown a pack of Tortex .88mm or .73mm Picks. Countless musicians across the world, representing every genre and playing style, have chosen Tortex Picks to help them do what they love.

Good product
This is lemon oil guitar for the fretboard by Dunlop. It is not hard to apply and give a good result. It is also not expensive and helps to keep the guitar in good shape. Thus, I am quite satisfied. That bottle is quite big actually, and can last for a long time. So it is a good value for the price.

Some people will tell you that using regular old furniture lemon oil is just as good - I used to be one of those misguided souls myself. *Embarrassed smile.
Common household furniture oils can actually harm a rosewood (or similar) fretboard because of the bits of cleansing agents they contain. This Dunlop 65 stuff is pure and can potentially become your fretboard’s “bestest”, “goodest” buddy. :) Used sparingly - no more often than twice per year on any given guitar - your rosewood fretboard will remain fortified and well-conditioned, making it pretty much impervious to cracking, splitting and shrinking.

Brings a second life to your fretboard

The applicator works well and visibly hydrates the fretboard (rosewood in my case). I found a little bit of slipperiness on the fingers immediately after use (which I actually like) but it dried off within a day and the board still looks hydrated (visibly darker and richer). The smell in minimal and whatever residue you may feel is unoffensive (and you may even like it). I found the liquid was barely used after one full and liberal fretboard application so I figure if you do this on say three or four guitars twice a year, this bottle should still last at least a two or three years. At the current list price of about $10 (CAD), that seems like a solid value for amounts to an easy way to get a great looking and feeling fretboard. You may feel it works differently depending on your fretboard wood, but on rosewood (all my guitars have rosewood fretboards), it seems to work really well.

I’ve been working on some old guitars recently and we live in a VERY dry climate. This stuff is fantastic. Even the very worst fretboard looks dark and lustrous after (max 2 applications). Just make sure u wipe off the excess thoroughly as leaving it can cause oily blotchy spots.
One other warning: keep away from pets. Pretty toxic to ingest and my doc loves the smell. Please keep away from doggos.

This oil is great and made my fretboard feel and look awesome. I love the applicator built into the bottle. I think this will last me a long time.

I used to just let my guitars sit. Wipe the dust off from time to time, change strings - play them. That's about it. A few years ago I had some issues with an old guitar that wouldn't stay in tune and the bridge was all messed up. So I decided to fix it up, long story short - the difference between using just the cleaner vs cleaner AND replenishing oil, is amazing. Just like your wooden furniture, your guitars neck needs an oil replenishment. It looks great .. but more importantly it adds a layer of protection and allows your fingers to slide around far more easily. This is an absolute necessity .. I now use it once or twice a year on every guitar. The application is a bit bothersome .. I wish there was a better way. Once you get the flow started it works great, but getting the flow started is a bit like waiting for paint to dry.

No doubt, it is a cleaning solution for instrumentals. I even used it for wood surface, drumsticks, doors and furniture. Lemon scent too. Simply Great!
