The screen is not circular. It has a very aggressive curve in the middle, but then the curve tapers off and the panel becomes completely flat on the sides. This makes it very difficult for my eyes and brain to get used to it, and can easily trigger dizziness and headaches. Other wide screen monitors have consistent curve throughout the whole screen width, which makes it much easier to get used to it over a few days.

It has a poor quality VA panel with a very pronounced color shift depending on the angle you look at it. The curve in the middle helps with this, but the flat parts of the panel on the sides will show different color saturation than the middle. Also, the top part of the panel has nice and rich colors, while the bottom part of the panel has washed out colors. This is because the screen height causes your eyes to look at the top and bottom of the screen at different angles.

It is NOT officially on Nvidia's G-Sync compatible list, and it shows. There is a lot of flickering/flashing with G-sync engaged in the native resolution of 7680x2180, making it unusable. Once you lower the resolution to the regular 4K, the flickering/flashing goes away.

Speaking of the regular 4K resolution of 3840x2180, it does a pretty poor job of scaling the screen automatically to 16:9. In many cases, it just stretches the screen to fill the whole width of the panel. It has an option to force aspect ratio and size of the screen, but it maxes out at 27-inch equivalent, which results in black bars on top and bottom of the screen.

Waking up from sleep is a big issue. I heard this mentioned in reviews, but I didn't really appreciate the magnitude of this problem. You have to either restart your computer (and risk losing data in your open applications) or disconnect and then re-connect the cable from your video card (and risk damaging your video card) multiple times a day every time your monitor goes to sleep. After 4 or 5 firmware upgrades this problem still persist, so it looks like it is some sort of hardware issue that cannot be fixed in firmware. This monitor has to be turned on all the time your computer is on, and you need to manually power it down and up when you stop and start your computer.

Generally a very good display. I will definitely keep it.

One thing to be aware of...

The pixels density per inch is substantially greater than any monitor I have previously used. The 57" Odyssey Neo G9 defaults to a 7860 x 2160 resolution which packs the vertical 2160 pixels into about 39 cm.

Where as an Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ (43 inch 4K) spreads the 2160 vertical pixels over about 52.8 cm (and proportionately similar in the horizontal). This results in applications on the G9 57 inch screen being approximately 74% of the size compared to the Asus 43 inch screen.

So first off, if you have someone to help you unbox and set this up, it will be MUCH easier. I didn't, and I was sore the next day. This monitor is massive; it literally goes from one end of my desk to the other. I wasn't even sure I was going to have enough room. For the first half hour, I actually hated it. Then I realized that Windows 11 has some very nice window snapping options and one of them is set up to have a larger middle window with a smaller window on either side and that works so well for me.

The picture quality is very crips at full resolution. Brightness can get SUPER bright though I keep the picture setting on Eco as it's easier on my eyes. Gaming on this is a whole new experience (just using it in general was a new experience for me). I've played both Destiny 2 and Final Fantasy XIV and both games support the ultra wide screen and look amazing. To really take advantage of it in Destiny, I'll have to upgrade my graphics card... my 3080 forces me to use lower rendering resolutions to maintain a usable FPS.

The menu system is easy to navigate and has lots of settings. The core sync is certainly lacking because the RGB lighting on the back of the monitor is VERY dim. Dim enough that I don't even see it on the wall right now while sitting in front of it. That's disappointing because that really does add to an immersive experience when watching movies or playing games.

Overall, I'm super happy with. My only regret is for when it stops working because I'll have to choose between replacing it (costing a small fortune) or living without it (not sure I could go back now).

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" Dual 4K Curved Gaming Monitor: The Ultimate Immersive Experience
Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2024
Style: MonitorVerified Purchase
If you're a gamer or a professional seeking the ultimate in visual immersion, look no further than the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" Dual 4K UHD 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor. This monitor is nothing short of spectacular, delivering a breathtakingly expansive view with its dual 4K resolution and ultra-wide 57-inch screen.

Stunning Visuals and Clarity
The first thing that struck me was the sheer size and resolution of this monitor. The dual 4K display ensures that every detail is crystal clear, making games, movies, and even daily tasks more engaging. The 1000R curvature wraps around your field of vision, pulling you into the action like never before. Whether you're exploring vast open worlds or editing high-resolution videos, the visual experience is second to none.

Performance and Speed
Performance-wise, the Odyssey Neo G9 doesn't disappoint. With a refresh rate of 240Hz and a 1ms response time, it handles fast-paced gaming effortlessly. There’s no ghosting, no tearing – just smooth, fluid motion. This level of performance is a game-changer, especially for competitive gamers who need every millisecond advantage.

Advanced Features
One of the standout features of this monitor is its HDR capabilities. The HDR 2000 technology brings colors to life, providing deeper blacks and more vibrant colors. It's like having a mini cinema on your desk. Additionally, the Quantum Mini LED technology ensures that brightness and contrast are perfectly balanced, enhancing the overall visual fidelity.

Design and Connectivity
The design of the Odyssey Neo G9 is sleek and modern, fitting well into any gaming setup or professional workspace. Despite its large size, it doesn't feel overwhelming thanks to the elegant, minimalist stand. Connectivity options are robust, including multiple HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, making it easy to connect to various devices.

User Experience
From the moment I set it up, using the Odyssey Neo G9 has been a delight. The on-screen display menu is intuitive and easy to navigate, allowing for quick adjustments to settings. The monitor also includes features like picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture modes, which are incredibly useful for multitasking.

Final Thoughts
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" Dual 4K UHD 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor is an investment, but it's one that pays off in spades. It elevates your gaming and viewing experience to new heights, offering unparalleled performance and visual quality. Whether you're a hardcore gamer, a content creator, or someone who simply appreciates top-tier tech, this monitor is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars There is such a thing as too big of a monitor.
Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2024
Style: MonitorVerified Purchase
I use this monitor for software development. Shockingly, I do not play games and had no intent to buy this monitor for that purpose. Rather, I liked the idea of having a single monitor to replace the two 32" Asus Pro Art monitors that I already had. I also liked the idea of having a display that could run at > 60Hz. I have a 40" LG monitor that does 5k at 72Hz, and honestly I don't know why they bothered. Can't tell a difference at all. 120Hz I can definitely tell the difference.

First, installation is a nightmare by yourself. Make sure you bring a friend. It weighs 44lbs, and because of it's extreme curvature (1000R), it is unwieldy. If you are thinking of wall mounting this, think again. First, despite its size, it is limited to a VESA 100x100 mount, so you are limited to mounts for smaller screens. Second, those mounts assume a flat screen in their weight rating. When you curve a monitor like this one, the weight is not on the mount, it is in FRONT of the mount. As such, any mechanism on the mount that would be used to tilt the screen vertically will basically drag down all the way no matter how much you tighten it. Proper jointed mounts for this big boy cost upwards of $400. Make sure you figure that in to the price. Look for Ergotron wall or desk mounts. Now of course you could use the stand that comes with it, but be prepared to give up all of your desk space, as it is huge and curves as much as the monitor.

Now then, on to hooking it up to a laptop. I have a seriously upgraded MacBook Pro M3 Max, and the best it can do is 120Hz. If you want to push this at 240Hz, you will either need a serious gaming laptop with an RTX 4070 or better. There is no Mac that can power this above 120Hz. And if you have a Mac, get ready for some serious adjustments. First, for MacOS to run this as a Hi-Res display, it either will run it at full resolution (get out a microscope) or HALF the resolution, which makes it unusably huge. There is no in-between. You can spend money on apps like BetterDisplay, but you will get a seriously ugly display that always looks a bit fuzzy. Windows probably would do better, as it has a graceful scaling mechanism. I found that I an make my apps use a huge font, but the upshot is that when you unplug from the monitor the apps on your make are now huge.

Other fun issues that are Mac-specific: Mac always puts the menu for an app on the top left of the screen. So if you have an app open on the extreme right side of the screen, you will have to move the mouse nearly 4 feet across the monitor to get to the menus. Apple, admit that this was a seriously bad idea and give us the option to put menus in the app, where they belong. And even if you don't use Mac, get a really, really big mousepad. You will need at least 16" wide to move the mouse from one side of the monitor to the other without picking the mouse up and moving it.

OK, so why did I give this a 4 star review? Because once you get everything working right, it is awesome. I can have four files open in my editor at once, with plenty of room. I can see everything at once (well, with a bit of head turning -- bonus: you get more head movement). If you can get your apps to scale, the text is nice and crisp, and the scrolling is super-smooth at 120Hz. You can have eight apps open at the same time without hitting ALT-TAB.

What would it take to get this to 5 stars?
* Make the VESA mount 200x200, or include an adapter to make it work with one
* Better Mac ergonomics (this is not Samsung's fault)
* Include a window management tool similar to Rectangle Pro or Magnet with the monitor
* Make it lighter somehow

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Size!
Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024
Style: MonitorVerified Purchase
This monitor took much longer than expected to arrive, it was also delayed for some unknown reason. I was shocked how big the box it came in was. I was looking for an ultra wide monitor for some time. I had went to Best Buy and saw the 49" monitors. They looked really good, but I didn't feel like it was tall enough for how wide it is. I was unable to find a 57" monitor anywhere in stores so I winged it and ordered it online hoping I would like it. Now after having it for almost 7 months I love the size! I think this is the perfect size for any use (gaming, working, trading, etc.). Aside from the size I read other reviews about the popping noise and I will say that I heard it sometimes during the first few months of use but over time I heard it less and less. Now I don't hear it at all. I have a MacBook Pro M1 Max plugged in and it works great. Unfortunately I am unable to have it at 240 hz because I would need a M2 chip or higher. Either way the monitor is set at the highest (120 hz) and I think it looks great. I mainly use it for trading and working. I usually have 3 full size windows open and they are the perfect size to work. The screen has a matte finish so it is anti-glare. I prefer this, but I know some people do not as it takes away from screen clarity. It hasn't given me any problems as of now. The most challenging part was mounting it with a desk arm mount. At the time I only found one arm mount that could support this monitor because it is so heavy. The mount actually dented in to my desk (it's an ikea tabletop so I wasn't surprised). The mount would also sway towards one side because of the weight of the monitor even though all the mount screws were fully tightened (I used some tie wraps to fix the issue). After mounting it and adjusting the screen settings to my liking the experience using it is phenomenal!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you currently have (2) 4k 32 inch monitors.. Free up desk space and cables and buy this now..
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024
Style: MonitorVerified Purchase
I was on the fence about buying an insanely big Monitor.. before I only heard of 49 inches. I had a 32-inch 4k curved monitor with another straight monitor next to it, and thought the idea of having something bigger would be crazy. But then I saw the 57 inch dual UHD monitor and I knew what I wanted. I have had this monitor for a few weeks now. It is the most epic monitor for any situation. I work from home and having a bunch of screens up at once like teams chat, a browser in the middle and mail on the other side is just amazing. I used to have (2) 32 inch 4k monitors. There was the bezel in the middle and for gaming naturally using both at once isn't really supported.

Love this monitor I can't believe the technology that exists today. 7680x2160 is just epic and the 52 inch left to right hits your line of sight with your eyes if you lock your head while looking in the middle of the screen then just move your eyes to the left and right as far as they can go.. it literally matches your field of view. If you use a modern laptop I used a usb-c to HDMI 2.1 cable and I get the full 7680x2160 resolution at 120hz. If you have a video card capable of DisplayPort 2.1 like a Radeon 7900 then you can get 7680x2160 at 240hz.

I should of made the switch a long time ago. But then again 49 inches can't do what this 57 inch can and this just came out in oct 2023. I just love it. Most epic buy in my 27 year history of PC building gaming etc.

Nexus Theater
3.0 out of 5 stars Weird Horizontal Lines Across the Full Display
Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2023
Style: MonitorVerified Purchase
For a monitor that costs $2500 and in its 4th iteration, you'd think the problems would've been worked out, but it's not. There are things that I need to mention so that those who are looking to buy this monitor get a realistic expectation before purchasing.

Problem #1: (Largest Problem)
There are very small horizontal gray lines that spans across the whole screen in all resolutions in both SDR & HDR. From what I see, it looks like it's the Polarized filter that's causing this and not the LCD itself. It's not noticeable if the monitor is far away from you, but if you're close to the monitor you can definitely see it. The weird thing is, the left side of the monitor does not have this problem. Only, the middle and the right side of the monitor have this problem.

Problem #2:
HDR looks good, but I feel like it's not as good as the 49" Neo G9. The HDR Tone Mapping seems to be a little off so if you're on Windows using HDR, YouTube videos can look a little washed out compared to its predecessor, the 49" Neo G9. This might be addressed in the future via a firmware update, or it might not be.

Problem #3:
Your picture settings sometimes will sometimes get super dim due to a refresh change. This happens only for HDR and not SDR. For example, if you're using Windows HDR on the desktop and you load a game and the game is in Fullscreen mode, even if the game is in HDR, the panel might dim itself considerably. You would have to go into the monitor's menu system to change the HDR tone mapping from Active, to Static, and BACK to Active in order to get back the original brightness. Again, this might be addressed in the future via a firmware update.

Problem #4:
When using Davinci Resolve, for some reason the monitor blacks out and comes back. It doesn't happen often, but it happens more often than it should. I'm unsure as to why it happens, because this does not happen when using any other programs or playing any games (I've tested about 20 games).

***Extra Information***

- The full 8K resolution is only available up to 120hz in HDMI1. HDMI 2/3 can go up to 8K 240hz but even with an Nvidia RTX 4090, it cannot utilize the full bandwidth. My RTX 4090 is limited to 8K120hz or 5120x1440p @240hz on HDMI 2 & 3.

- AMD's Radeon 7900 XTX can go up to the full 8K 240hz using DisplayPort 2.1, however the graphics card is not powerful enough to play triple AAA games at framerates anywhere near this resolution & refresh rate. You can play games like League of Legends, Overwatch, and Counter-Strike 2 at 240hz since they are easier to run and has a lower demand on graphics.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Positive #1)
The image is super crisp and clear at the full 8K ultrawide resolution of 7680x2160. The HDR for videos & games are fantastic. (Unfortunately, I have the horizontal gray lines that spans the monitor so it's not as crisp as it can be). There's no other monitor out there that provides this level of resolution, HDR performance, and refresh rate.

Positive #2)
The refresh rate and pixel response time of this monitor at 240hz is better than its predecessor (49" Neo G9). Very smooth across the board, haven't had any issues with it (10 out of 10!). Very much in love with its motion handling.

Positive #3)
PIP works just as expected. However, it is limited to 120hz and VRR does not work when in PIP mode (or at least, I can't get it working properly).

Conclusion:
There are plenty of things to like about this monitor, however the horizontal gray lines really ruins the amazing image quality. I'm willing to live with all of the other problems, but the horizontal gray lines is a deal breaker for me. For $2500 + Tax, it's unacceptable to have any visual flaws since it is the most expensive gaming monitor available. I'm getting a replacement on it and will update the review if the replacement monitor is a perfect panel. I wished Samsung Q&A is better so that we (as the consumer) didn't have to play panel lottery but it is what it is. It's hard to manufacture this level of quality & performance, perfectly every single time.
