From the manufacturer
1. Some of the storage capacity is used for formatting and other purposes and is not available for data storage. 1GB equals 1 billion bytes.
2. Compatibility may vary and may be contingent on device formatting and host capabilities.
3. Compatible Android devices must be able to work with USB Mass Storage over OTG. Operating system updates and reformatting may be required.
4. iPadOS 13 required for the Crucial X8 to work with iPad devices with USB-C port.

It is not the fastest advertised speed out there (search Sandisk Extreme) but compared to the old hard-disk drives (HDDs) that we have been using, this is fast enough, and we barely have the hardware to take advantage of its maximum speeds.
This capacity meant that photos and videos taking up storage on our cell phones could be backed up, with plenty of room for games, music, and videos. Note that 2Tb isn't a lot of room for 4K video editing or anything like that; for daily household and school uses this is plenty.
The plug is USB-C, so your tv must have that type of plug (or you buy a USB-A adapter separately), and your tv can read 2Tb hard drives (most have capacity limits) if you want to plug that into a tv. For a monitor you will need a computer to read its contents as well as a USB-C cable, or an adapter.
My worry is that because it's so small and it's the colour black, one of these days I will drop it, it bounces on the floor, and lose it. I suppose I could put a bright sticker on it but I don't know how that will affect its heat dissipation. So far it's safe, being treated well and I haven't travelled with it much. Once the child gets older they will get one of these as well; at their age they will most likely lose it (heck, I might lose it, it is THAT small).
Great purchase.
This tiny little thing has had no such problems. As a true SSD, it is 100% silent and loads content in an instant. Not once since I've had it has it lagged, buffered or crashed anything I've loaded from it. It's so small that it's not a detrimental add to a travel kit, it's a storage peace-of-mind for practically no downsides.
I will say, it's overall not as fast as the SSD in the M1 Pro MacBook Pro I connect it to. However, Apple sticks ridiculously fast drives in these, I honestly don't know many other drives that don't cost the same as a new MacBook that can rival the speeds of those. Past that little comparison, these are nice and speedy, and honestly well worth the additional investment. Maybe you don't need 4TB like I do, but the smaller capacity should still very much impress.
Still, if you own a PS5 of the new generation (with usb-c port in the back) or do not need your from usb-c port for PSVR, then it performs well and allows similar loading times for your PS4 titles on it as if they were on the console's main drive.
- It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A converter.
- Seems durable and solid.
- Fast enough to transfer big files. It has an average of 500mb/s of writing speed, depending on the situation and the file type, and can go up to around 1000mb/s which is fast enough for most cases.
- Comes with 3 years of warranty.
Got it during the black friday and highly recommended!

fair warning, the x6s do not come with the usb-a adapter like the x8s do. if you do not have enough usb c ports or any at all, they sell the adapters separate.

The reality is that the drive is completely unusable. I have lost tons of data on it, and been completely unable to recover. The drive is clearly defective as any attempts to test the read/write speeds or use the drive in general constantly result in drive stalls.
Normally I would just chalk this up to a loss and not think too much about it, but this is my SECOND crucial drive purchase (the first one being an internal SSD), and that one ALSO DIED prematurely. So, I no longer trust the brand at all.
Sadly, although I've had problems with this drive since day 1, I thought they might not be so serious, so I kept using the drive way past the return window. An expensive lesson learned.

Which is, fortunately, not an issue at all with the new SSD that I got just recently: Crucial X6! Same capacity, taking up the same position on my desk, but incredibly small - and no moving parts to wear out! YAY!
Though of course I don't know for sure, I imagine that the inside is a small form-factor M.2 drive flanked with heat spreaders - the only other option is that the drive takes up the entire space inside the case.
Either way, the drive is awesome and performs quite quickly for any number of applications. Much more quickly than the old magnetic drive, that's for sure. A weird thing is that it does not like CrystalDiskMark - creating its test file and then the speed test on it, well, takes a lot longer than I thought it would, whether I keep it on the default of 1 GB or go down to 128 MB. This makes this program unreliable for speed tests in my configuration - if I did not stop the test and let it show the speed that it determined, it would likely be much slower than the actual drive’s speed.
Speaking of my configuration: my computer does not have a USBC port on it natively, and this drive only has a USBC port on it, most likely to save on space and keep the drive as miniscule as it possibly can be. Thus, I had to get a USBC to USBA adapter cable, which I had gotten before for use with another drive. As far as I can tell, without being able to use a benchmark program as previously stated, the functionality and speed is fine with this SUNGUY brand cable. And the cable is fairly snazzy as well as you can see, its nylon-esque cover being braided!
Back at its inception two years ago, this drive was incredibly expensive at $285, and it was only available in 1 and 2 TB variants - now there's a 4 terabyte variant which I may get sometime. I was able to get this 2 TB variant for $110 and I am very happy about that. In retrospect, it might have been a bit better to be a bit more circumspect about my purchase and spend the extra $20 on the X8, which comes with its own USBA adapter and is apparently faster? (limited by the USBA connection, of course)
But that's all right - this will do for me for now, and I'm sure that somewhere down the line I will get the X8 as well, and repurpose this drive for maybe an extra storage device for my Xbox One - or the other way around. Goodness knows it's slow enough with its magnetic drive built in.
So yeah. get this drive if you want a little extra capacity and you're able to find a good spot for it to sit on your desk. Since it is so lightweight and small and thus likely to get lost if you don't secure it, I do highly recommend getting cable clips like those little adhesive/silicone ones that can grab onto cables and hold things securely in place - the ones I got have the brand names of OHill, ChefBee and ONME (yeah, I have lots of cables that need securing! ) and are sold here on Amazon for around $10, and come in both white and black (ONME had some Browns in their collection as you can see, but they stopped selling them over the past two years). Do some shopping as your needs entail 🙂
Take care, awesome fellow computer people, and happy storing!
