Everyone has been searching for legacy AV composite to HD capture boxes, based on the many youtube product reviews. Unfortunately, ClearClick HD capture 2.0, Elgato, DigitNow, etc. have poor analog NTSC signal processing to digital conversion. I have bought and subsequently returned all of them. They caused colour ghosting and ringing on vertical edges of coloured objects, jittering in sync every few seconds, and not representative of the original AV analog material (I am using a SONY HVC-2400 Trinicon camera). Totally unacceptable to demonstrate my nice vintage SONY Trinicon! These devices were also very expensive. Now here is the good news. This low cost AV to 720/1080p 60Hz converter handles the original analog interlaced 480i NTSC colour material perfectly! It looks virtually IDENTICAL on the TV screen via its HDMI output, as when the AV source is directly connected to same TV (through its AV composite input). Very, very slight black level shift downwards, but negligible. Colours are superbly accurate, and no ghosting/fringing! As an engineer, I can say this is what I have been looking for and am fully satisfied. This approach means, that now that the AV signal is successfully converted to digital, a SECOND box, a normal HD capture box (like the Y&H Stand-Alone HDMI Video Capture Ezcap 273A), will have to be purchased and put in line after this AV converter box, to have a complete HD capture via SD card, from the AV source. I really recommend this approach, as the other "all in one" boxes don't do the analog signal justice at all. Hope this review finally straightens out everything that people have been searching for digitizing their VCR outputs or vintage video cameras. In my case, I will be using a 12V battery box with 5V USB outlets, to power both boxes and my SONY Trinicon camera, to in effect, have a modern way of recording from my camera outside, to showcase what a Trinicon camera really is capable of! Long live vintage analog video! Remember, the final final/TV aspect ratio MUST be changed to 4:3, as these boxes have no idea what is intended from your AV source! All other reviews here about poor operation, almost certainly are due to their VCR/AV source being defective somehow.

I had bought an old VCR to convert digitize videotapes, some of which were in the European PAL format. Unfortunately, the VCR came from the Ukraine, and would only play the tapes back in its own native standard, SECAM. After many attempts to change the VCR settings, I bought this little box. After a taking a couple of seconds to lock onto the picture, it had no difficulty digitizing the SECAM signal, and the video quality it outputs is really excellent. That really impressed me.

It will work with normal North American devices too, and the quality is just as good. You can display the picture directly by running an HDMI cable (not included!) into a TV. I wanted to copy the video, so I ran an HDMI cable into a "game capture" device, then into a computer, using OBS software to resize the picture and record it.

I've been very pleased with the results. The box converts both video and sound. Audio is correctly synchronized to the video. There are no obvious digital artifacts, and the output image is very stable – I suspect the conversion process stabilizes a jumpy picture.

If you're playing back from a standard video source, the image will always be stretched to widescreen. Viewing a video image in its normal 4:3 aspect ratio requires adjusting the picture settings on the TV. I think it manipulates the colour, too – the images seemed more vivid than you might expect from an old tape. (Eg, blacks are black rather than grey. It looks good.) A switch provides two widescreen HD resolutions – 720P and 1280P. The lower one is more than enough for videotapes.

You get only the converter box and its USB power cord. You need to buy suitable cables, as well as a USB power supply. The converter uses a USB cable as its power cord – which is likely to confuse a few customers. A clumsy arrangement.

However, for the low price, this is an amazing little device. I also own the Elgato Video Capture Card, which is easier to use and set up, and includes friendly software, but can't do the conversion tricks that this converter can do. If you don't mind tinkering to get it set up, this converter is outstanding value.

Don't use composite cables for older TVs or video game consoles and instead find out if component cables can be used instead as they are much higher quality, regardless this adapter works amazingly and was pretty easy to use, the 720p/1080p function doesn't work though but you're using composite cables so what did you expect.

This product seems to be pretty good. It functions well. It is not an upscaler, it just allows use of RCA outputs to HDMI input. The only thing I am not wild about is that it needs to be plugged in to 120Vac power. Otherwise it is a pretty nice product. It's not a mind bender, RCA in one side, HDMI out the other. Can ya dig it?

I read many reviews before purchasing this, I always start with the one star reviews, then move on to the others. I did not find anything wrong with this unit. It performed exactly as it was supposed to, imeadiatly. I was surprised, as many times when adding things that are conversions, things just don't go correctly. This was so simple, and worked, I'm surprised. I have already viewed over 20 of my old VHS tapes, and have had no issues what so ever with it. That's my experience with it. Oh, I'm 81 and still able to comprehend simple computer function, so if I can do this, anyone can.
