I shoot vlogs and wanted to experiment with manual settings outdoors; and it was suggested by other Youtubers to try using a variable nd filter for video shooting to help get a more cinematic look. I didn't know what to expect and didn't want to drop too much money so I gave this one a shot. I bought this particular fader because it was available and recommended by Amazon. Honestly it works very well. I've used it on video shoots and it helps me get the exact settings I want. I can easily get the fully open aperture and low ISO in broad daylight. Being variable I just have to rotate to change the setting rather than changing separate fixed nd filters. The image quality looks great as well, very sharp. I'm not sure if there is any color change as I don't notice it. The only thing I wish it had was some indicator to tell you what density it is at other than just line markings. But it isn't a deal breaker since I just rotate until I get the right exposure settings anyway. Just be careful of rotating past minimum or maximum as you do get that 'X' across the image that people talk about. I think it's prevalent for all faders anyways. Also I wish I could put a lens cap on it since the outside isn't threaded so the cap doesn't stay on. Other than that the build quality seems very good.
Overall it's a great filter to experiment with and for its low cost it's definitely worth trying out.

- X" cross on images is a common issue with wide angle lenses and variable ND filters. Physics limit the capabilities of variable ND filters on wide angle lenses. When you enter the edge of the max range,the "X" issue may appear on your image.due to the partcular angle of the two polarizers when approaching max densit

Really helpful for timelapses
I am more of a weather watcher that stands around taking timelapses. I had a variable filter for my iPhone and wanted something just like that but good quality since I switched to the pro camera. Surprised it was below $40, budget friendly. All I really need it for is to prevent the grey blue light flickering in the videos with sunshine and clouds. I'm not too deep into photography with different filters, but for this it is nice.Another thing I'm very well pleased about is unlike the cheaper beginner filters, it screws on so easy. The cheaper filters you have to fiddle around with until it finally screws on. A lot of time wasted doing that.
