This desktop video light seems like a good idea in theory, but there were a couple of things that kept it from being a total win for me.
Needs a Charge-Up:
Right out of the box, I was worried the light was broken. It wouldn't turn on at all! Turns out, it just needed some charging time. A quick note in the instructions would have saved me a mini-panic attack.
A Bit Wobbly:
The base is intentionally not centered for desks, which is great for positioning, but it also makes the light a little unsteady. It wasn't a major issue, but it's something to keep in mind if you need a super stable light source.
The Good Stuff:
Here's where this light shines (pun intended). There's no flickering, which is crucial for video calls. The brightness is perfect - not blindingly bright like some other video lights I've used, but bright enough to make a difference.
Bonus Feature:
My son actually ended up loving this light for his Lego stop motion projects! The size is perfect for creating focused lighting on his little movie sets.
The Cell Phone Stand:
The included cell phone stand wasn't really useful for me, but hey, maybe it'll be perfect for someone else.
Overall:
This video light isn't flawless, but it gets the job done. It provides good, flicker-free light for video calls and is surprisingly versatile for creative projects. Just remember to charge it up before your next big meeting!

I work from home and got this for video conferences/meetings. It does work great for what it is. The panel is bright and the settings allow for a wide variety of possibilities.Unfortunately, this is marred by the fact that all of the controls are on the back of the unit. Unless you are able to have the unit fairly close to you, you are going to have to keep getting up and sitting back down while you try out the different modes to find what is suitable for your situation. A remote control would have been very useful for this, or even just putting the controls on the front of the panel instead of the back.The buttons themselves have a nice click to them. The phone holder was easy to install and works fine, although I don't personally plan on using it.The post and base are sturdy and it would take effort to knock this over. I do wish the post had an extra segment in it so it could go even taller. This would be important if you want to try and put it back behind your computer monitors - make sure you check the height to see if it is too short for that.This light panel does not come with the power adapter (USB A required for the cord provided). I'm really happy with this ring light. It makes taking pictures easier because I don't need to rely on good outdoor lighting anymore. The different settings are perfect to adjust to the ambient luminosity and I love that compared to other right light this one diffuses light without add-ons. Lastly, my phone holds really well on the stand (I have an iPhone 14 Pro).

I am finding that the Amcuke Desktop Video Light is a very handy light for many purposes around my home. It is small enough to take from one desk or table to another, but is substantial enough to give a good broad amount of light. I was surprised at how bright it is at its brightest setting, which is very good for my uses. I’ve been using this light more as fill light for tabletop photography and for reading, but I also plan to use it when playing board games. The attached cord is a little over 6’ long and has a USB type-A end that needs to be plugged into a source (not included) in order for it to work. A nice feature is the telescoping stand. It can be adjusted from 11"-18”. Another handy feature is that the light panel can be rotated up and down to change the angle of the lighting – a feature that I really like. I usually use the medium to bright colour temperature settings, but it has 5 to choose from, (3000-6500K range). This light is very stable as long as you don’t aim the light panel backwards, up at the ceiling. The base has a thin, soft cushion coating and should prevent scratches from happening on surfaces. Attaching the phone holder to the upper part of the telescopic stand is a bit of a chore and once it is on, it isn’t a smooth operation to adjust it up or down the stand. If you plan to use the phone holder, chances are, you won’t need to be making those kinds of adjustments once it is in place and everything will work great. – See pictures.Reviewed in Canada on May 24, 2024
