I've been using Colora Henna powder for years, after ditching regular hair color products due to their questionable ingredients.
Yes, henna is messy but it does a great job. And the mess can be kept to a minimum with a bit of pre-planning.
Definitely wear disposable gloves, and a sturdy shower cap for processing time.
Use spring water for mixing NOT tap water.
Avoid using a plastic container preferably (I use glass).
I mix the henna with water about 24 hours in advance, covered, at room temperature.
Leave it on my hair about 2-2.5 hours for processing. This takes some experimenting but that time frame has been ideal for my preferences in color saturation.
I use a full pack of the Mahogany, my hair is thick and past my shoulders.
I put a rolled thin layer of toilet tissue around the outside edges of shower cap to keep drips in check.Works better than cotton batting imo and is less expensive.
Henna not only covers grey hair very well, it leaves hair soft and in good condition,; unlike the drying effects from some commercial coloring products I used years ago.
One last tip, I wash off the henna thoroughly with mild shampoo (I 💙Desert Essence) but don't use ANY other hair products for at least 24 hours after that. No gel, conditioner.... allowing the henna to set a bit.

Give it a try. Anything that helps to reduce the use of more toxins, chemicals... in daily life choices AND still works well is worth the effort to switch.
