It's great but has the dumbest mount on a Celestron 8SE.
4 Stars
It's great but has the dumbest mount on a Celestron 8SE.
It works great with the SkyPortal software on my Android S8. Make aligning much easier. That said I had to take a star away as the SkyQ mounts in a perfect position to be hit by the diagonal mirror if you plan to look straight up. When I first powered the Celestron NextStar 8se, the SkyPortal told the mount to point straight up causing the mirror to strike the SkyQ module. The orange section of the SkyQ is a bit flexible, but don't count on it. It looks like it could break if struck several time.So to fix this I made a 6 inch 6 conductor cable that allowed me to position the SkyQ on the side of the mount rather than the top. If Celestron wanted to make the dumbest mount possible, they get 5 stars. Celestron should provide their own plug adaptor for this type of mount. Other than that, it seems to be a good performer, but I’ll need several months more to properly evaluate it.

It took a little less than 5 minutes to have the wifi module running and that's because I was lazy and didn't want to make mistake. This accessory can in fact be completely functional in few seconds, from its box to the telescope port and Skyportal running. It is that simple. Just follow the few steps on the instructions coming with it and it will work its magic in an instant. I received the latest generation of this SkyPortal accessory and no firmware update seemed to be needed since it worked straight out of the box. Good wifi signal when connecting directly to it with an iPhone. The control response time is instantaneous. It is expensive for such a little piece of hardware but the freedom and functionality it provides is priceless. Control input from wifi device is as accurate as if it was running from the hand controller. And it is much more convenient. No wire, no hassle, and Skyportal interface is fun to use. I'm not deceived. Can't wait to get my 8SE outside tonight with my kids. Just make sure that an 8SE is installed forward enough on the rail so the focus knob don't get into contact with the module. I can almost reach zenith (85 degree up) with the 8SE 1.25" diagonal.

Edit: I finally got out tonight with my 8SE equipped and its new Skyportal wifi. This device is a game changer. It hasn't faulted during the whole night, connection was strong and alignments were always spot on. It is so great to tap onto a clestial object in Skyportal app, hit goto and see the scope pivoting and aligning towards its target by itself. The freedom that this wifi device provides is priceless. My little girl thought it was a sorcerer trick when she saw her Jupiter on the phone screen and watch the scope align to it in real time when tapping GoTo. A nice educative tool.

Installed easily. Connect by your phone to its own SSID when you're in the field or can be set up to connect via your LAN when at home. Free SkyPortal app is easier to use than the hand controller (which always seemed to need a factory reset). I like that it sets the precise location and time automatically using your phone GPS, which is what I got it for.

Celestron 93973 SkyQ Link 2 Wi-Fi Module (Black)

a tiny little device that is great when you have kids. love using this with the celestron sky portal app. Not too expensive so i think its a must-have especially if you have kids. makes for a really fun time. one weird thing though, it sometimes disconnects randomly... Not sure why.... maybe an app issue? happens on both ios and android.

Having the option to control the telescope with the cell-phone will make shared observation sessions much easier to manage. The only downside to this device is that it mounts on the base directly beneath the telescope and will be contacted by the telescope as it slews to new positions (though this is easily and inexpensively overcome by adding a short extension cable). Overall I am quite pleased with this product and its functionality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great with Starsense Autoalign

This not only allows the StarSense Autoalign to use my phones GPS, with the skyportal app it makes alignment as easy as tapping one button. Even without the Autoalign it made aligning my Advanced VX with the 8" newtonian a breeze to align. Great product. Connect to your phone or tablet's wifi, open the Skyportal App, tap connect, and you are ready to go.

Perfettamente compatibile con il mio celestron Nexstar 6se. Avendo il motore per il focus nella porta aux ho dovuto acquistare uno sdoppiatore in modo da collegare entrambi gli accessori.
Funziona perfettamente.
