IMO: a luxurious addon if you have it -- but not really necessary otherwise

Celestron 93969 SkySync GPS AccessoryThis GPS add-on allows you to automatically input gps coordinates and date/time into your celestron telescope system. I own a nexstar 6se. Though you CAN get the same results with wifi adapter and phone or laptop, I managed to find an "open box" deal here with amazonwarehouse deals. I decided to get one and try it out anyway.This unit comes with two velcro straps (different lengths to accommodate different girths for strapping around). I used the shorter one for my Nexstar 6se tripod leg. Mounts easy and quick. The unit has a coiled RJ11 aux cable to plug into your mount AUX port. IF you are using alll your aux ports, then you can connect this to your handset's aux and then plug your handset into the aux port of this GPS dongle as well. Nice ! I use a 2-1 aux splitter.When i connected this to the Celestron firmare manager software i didnt see any update to upgrade to at the time of this review.Having this accessory adds a tad bit more conveience. No need to connect to laptop via usb. No need to direct connect the telescope via wifi to smartphone. Just as a standalone product, I dont need to manually enter time/date and gps coordinate at all. Turn the telescope on without any phone/laptop and things get setup quick. I'd say this is a nice little option if you can get your hands on it for a reduced price but if you use wifi module to your phone, i dont really think its a good value new. Fortunately , i got a nice discount on amazon warehouse pricing so it was a nice lucky buy and i love having it now tbh!

Great accessorie, accurate time and location make the go to function super accurate, no need to input info. If you go to a dark sky location no need to check gps coordinates, saves time and aggravation, accurate go to function make a nights observing session much more enjoyable, and productive.
AAA+++!!!

Very handy unit. Automatically inputs day-date-time as well as Lat & Long. Really cuts down on fumbling in the dark with the required updates every time you turn on the scope. Positioning is now absolute. Very useful add on to my Celestron scope.

This is a fairly simple product; a GPS that talks to your Celestron Telescope.

If you are controlling your scope from the telescope hand control, then all you do is plug the unit into your telescope's data aux port; and the scope does the rest. It saves a lot of keystrokes ... so, now there is no need to enter: date; time; daylight saving status; and triple entries for both longitude and latitude. Very convenient!

The unit is not necessary if you control the scope from your phone or laptop.

The gps unit provides the celestron hand controller with the time,date, and location information necessary for an accurate alignment. It is very simple to use, simply plug and play. It can take a few minutes for the GPS unit to receive the satellite signals it needs to calculate its location. Once the info is ready, the controller notes it and the alignment process can begin. So what exactly does this gps unit do to make it worth purchasing? It just keeps one from finaglling with the controller trying to enter time,date, and location coordinates. Whether that is worth the purchase price is up to each invidual to decide. I like the gps unit and it plays nice with the starsense autoalign.
