Easy to set up, you'll need new eyepieces, I suggest the celestron zoom eyepiece and a good 2x Barlow. The provided 3x barlow is useless for this telescope. I added a picture I captured of the moon using just my phone showing what you'll see through the eyepiece. Good beginner scope but I'd you can afford it there is much better scopes out there.

Wanted a scope that was quick and light to set up and this fit the bill. The tripod is a good size for this scope but a lawn chair makes it more comfortable viewing. The slow motion control works great for keeping objects in view. The 5x24 finder works ok but added a 6x30 in the spare dovetail on the scope. The 4mm eyepiece is good for the moon only. The 3x barlow won't work with the diagonal so purchased a 2x barlow. The 20mm eyepiece works better then expected. Found many Messier objects and open clusters. Good for easy double stars as well.

To date, have only really been able to see the moon and some stars and satellites in detail, but that's mostly on account of too many cloudy nights, and not yet having moved it from beyond the back lawn. The build is quite solid, the movements very smooth, and the mount completely stable (not sure where other people are finding fault there?) ...though as a complete newbie, I've nothing else to with which it can be compared. I do find the 'finderscope' a bit annoying - the angle at which you have to crouch down and contort yourself in order to locate an object is irritating (why not have a right angled top-viewing finderscope?) but that's pretty much my only gripe. Excellent purchase, and am really looking forward to clearer autumn nights!

I don’t know what people’s expectations are for something like this but on my first night of use I was able to clearly see the space between the planet Saturn and rings while viewing from my back deck within the city. Can’t wait to get this out on a camping trip!
Easy to assemble easy to use, never owned or used one before.

This telescope is easy to set up. With the scope, it is not hard to locate planets, like Jupiter and Saturn. The moons of Jupiter as well as the ring of Saturn can be clearly observed with the 4 mm eyepiece with the diagonal. I found that the 3x barlow can also be used only without the diagonal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good beginner scope. Kid friendly too

Saw a lot of negative comments but decided to try since the price is not too expensive. It has been a good decision. Maybe those who had negative feedback expected too much from this scope to perform like a 6-12 inch scope? Anyway reason for me to buy this is due to the short local length of 400mm which make it a travel scope category. Other than the tripod, everything including my additional eye piece set can fit nicely into a small gym bag.

Can see moon clearly even with the 4mm eye piece. The only useless item probably is the 3x baron scope. In any case for beginner any buyer should still upgrade with an additional eye piece set to see planets and moon better.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beginners entry or a balcony overnight job.

I think its a reasonable piece of optics for the price of it. I have a expensive scope but this one is intended to be left standing day ad night on a covered balcony. On distant observation of trees etc its quiet clear and the resolution is reasonable. But not comparable to a 2 or 3 thousand dollar scope. You want high performance optics pay a hefty price. I cannot get the barlow to focus. Mind you a good barlow will cost more then this scope.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Scope
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 12, 2016

Its a good entry level scope at a reasonable price, not too cheap and flimsy but obviously not as good as some of the more expensive scopes.

Pros.

Lightweight, can be easily moved between locations
Easy set up, had everything in place within 10 minutes
Tripod is very lightweight
Good quality 25mm and 4mm lens
Comes with a 3 x Barlow for extra magnification
Good views of the Moon with the 4mm lens
Can see equatorial bands of Jupiter when using the 4mm and good viewing

Cons

Finder scope isn't great and after a few nights stargazing you realise how important it is to align your primary scope to the finder. Problem is its very flimsy, slightest adjustment knocks the view completely. Probably worth investing in a better one
which is good for moving between locations but it can prove difficult to keep focus sometimes
Barlow lens isn't great, too much light distortion, probably best used when looking at the moon Jupiter was just a blur.

All in all a good starter scope to home your stargazing skills.
