I upgraded from a crop sensor camera, which was EF/EF-S adapter. This is a needed accessory if you want to use those lenses with these new R mount camera's. The control ring is already a great addition, your able to set the control ring to be several items for your best workflow, IE: Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, etc. Having another quick accessible control is vital for fast work environments.

The bad:
I’m a hobbyist with mostly EF lenses but an RF 50mm so I swap between the RF50 mm and the EF-Rf adapter a few times a month. But after working fine for a year and a half, the control ring stopped communicating with my EOS-RP as well as my buddy’s EOS-R. I’ve confirmed that his generic EF-RF control ring adapter works immediately on my camera, so it’s definitely not a settings issue. This is rather disappointing, as I would have hoped for a product with an MSRP of $200 USD that is basically a simple metal donut with a dial would not have this kind of short life expectancy.

The good:
It has a very satisfying clicky feedback while using the dial although some might prefer a smooth action that doesn’t have any detents in it . The finish on the ring is remarkably good, showing almost no wear except for just a small paint chip that flaked off on the EF-lens release button ( i had a lens that was in my bag that was bumping into the adapter one hike the previous year ). The gasket that seals against the camera body is still in perfect condition. EF lenses still mount onto the adapter ring with good authority and minimal slop. It still relays autofocus and aperture just fine between lens and body despite the control ring being unresponsive.

In short just about everything performs exactly as expected from a product that is easily twice the price of the generic counterparts. Everything except for the control ring, which makes me question “why buy this version of the EF-RF adapter?”

It’s small enough that it doesn’t add much weight, but it mounts securely and easily and seems very durable. My focus still works well with it. I haven’t had any issues with its stability at all. I’m very happy with this purchase as it helped me make the leap to a new camera without coating a fortune.
