Capture the far-off action of fast-paced sports or zoom in for an intimate portrait with the Canon EF 75-300mm telephoto zoom lens. The optical system, construction, and exterior are the same as the EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM’s. The difference is that it uses a DC motor instead of a USM to drive the AF.

From the Manufacturer

Capture the far-off action of fast-paced sports or zoom in for an intimate portrait with the Canon EF 75-300mm telephoto zoom lens. The optical system, construction, and exterior are the same as the EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM’s. The difference is that it uses a DC motor instead of a USM to drive the AF. As with all Canon lens, this 75-300 model carries a one-year warranty.

  • Focal length: 75-300mm
  • Maximum aperture: 1:4-5.6
  • Lens construction: 13 elements in 9 groups
  • Diagonal angle of view: 32 (at 11 feet) to 8 degrees (at 15 feet)
  • Closest focusing distance: 4.9 feet
  • Zoom system: Rotating type
  • Filter size: 58mm
  • Dimensions: 2.8 inches in diameter, 4.8 inches long
  • Weight: 16.8 ounces The most affordable of Canonís long telephoto zooms, this lens is excellent for subjects from portraits to wildlife and nature. It shares the same 13-element optical system as the 75-300mm USM lens, but uses a DC motor for autofocus. Close-focusing down to 4.9 feet (1.5m) allows filling the frame (at 300mm) with a subject the size of a dollar bill, and itís compatible with the Canon 58mm Close-up lens 500D for even more spectacular shots of small objects.

    Isolate the Interesting Part
The eye tends to see the whole rather than the individual parts. It also sees whatís near and not whatís far. By bringing attention to those things missed by the eye, you can create many interesting pictures. It could be the grimace of an athlete, the grill of a classic car, or a girl against a blurred background. Telephoto lenses can also compress images to give dramatic effects. You are limited only by your imagination.

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens

This high-magnification zoom lens is the smallest and lightest in its class, offering ideal cost-performance. A lightweight glass material was used for the first element group – the heaviest group in the optical system – to reduce operational load during autofocus operation. Combined with the micro USM, the autofocus is quick and quiet. The slim exterior and smooth zooming makes this lens a delight to use.

  • Filter size: 58mm
  • Maximum aperture: f/4 - 5.6
  • With micro USM motor

A budget telephoto lens for the poor

A budget telephoto lens for the poor
Interestingly, I am not a Canon user but rather a Fujifilm user who's using this lens with my X-T30 (via an adapter). If you know a thing or two about Fujifilm, it's that their lenses are pretty damn expensive. Even their budget telephoto lens costs around $400. So... as any poor person might do, and considering I already own an EF to Fuji X adapter, I decided to try this lens out which was $179 at the time of purchase.First thing I notice was a decrease in contrast and/or saturation. Second thing I notice was a major decrease in sharpness, mainly from the lack of OIS (and likely optics-wise as well). Definitely far from the sharpest lens out there; the Fujifilm XC telephoto lens is miles sharper. There is also significant purple fringing with this lens and it gets worse when zoomed all the way out. But for $180, I guess that's all to be expected; it is an old lens after all. Would not recommend buying this for more than $180.Telephoto aside, if you actually want a decent Canon lens for dirt cheap, the 50mm F1.8 (aka nifty fifty) has MUCH better optical quality. I own that one and love using it.

There was a tiny piece of dust that was inside the lens (visible on right side in pics) that I didn't notice until after I took my photos, but I had it replaced super quickly and easily which is great support, and the new one is perfect.

This is a great beginner/budget zoom lens that is a big upgrade from the included kit lens on the Rebel T7. For the price, it does the job very well. The focal range covers a decent amount and I have only tested it at an air show, but it does make you work for the shot. Great value lens.

Some drawbacks though is that there is no image stabilization, and the autofocus can be pretty slow and get confused especially on faster moving objects. I already expected those issues, since you get what you pay for, but for something that isn't the USM or higher end lenses it did way better than I thought it would. I had to use manual focus a fair bit so I missed some shots, but the ones I managed to get turned out way better than I expected.

Overall for the price it is a great buy, especially if you plan on photographing slower/still subjects. For practice or casual/hobby photography this is a perfect starter for using telephoto/zoom lenses. I plan to try it on wildlife which may be easier than fast moving planes.

Great lens for a great price! My only note would be that it didn't come with a lens cap or rear cover, so now I have to wait to use it regularly until I can get those in.
Otherwise, a great product.

This is such a great lens especially for the price however the colour fringing on it is bad. The good news is you can use some tips a tricks to make the colour fringing not as bad and you can get rid of it in light room.

I wanted a longer lens, but didn't have the budget for a better lens. It's Canon, so it's good, but doesn't have image stabilization. I don't think it's a sharp as my other lenses that have better glass, but I just got it, and will need to do some comparisons on the same subjects with different lenses.

So far Iove this lens. I have not had any issues at all with it. It seems to keep up with everything I have been taking photos of and it even did that amazing picture of the Solar Eclipse in April. I honestly did not expect it to do that well but it did. It really surprised us. We are using this on the Canon R7. The shipping was fast and we haven't found any issues with the lens at all. Would recommend. Including if you are on a budget.

This camera lens is amazing! It’s a little bit heavier than most lenses but totally worth it considering that you can do some pictures that are semi close-up but also zoom in and get GREAT quality pictures! At this point, this has to be my favorite lens for photographing families and young children! You won’t go wrong purchasing this lens for your photo sessions!

It’s overall a great lens, came in great packaging. It does have a little crack on the lens, as shown in the picture, but it is refurbished. Great zoom. Very crisp image. Overall, it’s a very good lens and I would definitely recommend it. Although it is only good for zooming.
