I asked on Amazon, and the seller replied saying they were the ones who made it for Insta360. I confirmed this by contact an Insta360 employee who said:
“ Hi there, thanks for reaching out! "The CYNOVA brand is the manufacturer behind the Insta360 brand, they're one and the same."——Yes, that's correct. CYNOVA is our collaborative partner for the co-branded mic adapter. I have confirmed this, and you can make your purchase with confidence; it is not a bootleg accessory.

With that said, I guess buying this one is as good as buying the Insta360 one — assuming they both honor warranties the same way (unclear). The packaging says Insta360 on it, as does the item.
You have to pop off the plastic USB port cover to clip this on. When it is plugged in, nothing happens. But when you plug a microphone (like my DJI lapel mic) in to it, you get a micrphone icon on the top of the screen (on my X4). If you speak, you will see an audio bar at the top of the display, bouncing to the sound levels. When you unplug the mic, the icon goes away.
This allows an easy way to plug my lapel mic in to the X4 and record me speaking. I can place the lapel mic near me, and have a wind filter on it, and pick up better audio from a few feet away (whatever the length of the lapel mic cable is) at higher quality than what the X4 mics pick up. (Of course, you might get better audio from the X4 if you were using a really bad lapel mic.)
Super simple and works well. I just wish Insta360 would build in the microphone input rather than needing this. I do not like popping off the USB panel. It could be lost, or get broken and need replacing (since it protects that port from water, it is important to keep on when using the camera in damp conditions).
The box itself says both CYNOVA and Insta360 on it. I do not know if the version sold by Insta360 says CYNOVA on it. Same warranty? I don’t know. They have a site you are supposed to go to for registration, and that site will not load on my phone or desktop, currently.
I will update this if I have any issues. Right now, it says with my lapel mic and I use it when I don’t need to use my wireless setup.

Note: I was little hesitant to yank the X4’s USB-C waterproof door out. But, after watching a short video tutorial, it turned out to be easy and safe to do. Now, I need to get a cold shoe for the X4 to mount the lav receiver. Another note: This mic adapter works fine with the thermal case that ships with the X4.
