It works, but it doesn’t.
This review will be a bit on the long side, but it won’t be a technical review so don’t worry.I live in the country where it has been confirmed by city councillors that our cell phone coverage throughout the community is poor to terrible, and that there isn’t much that can be done to fix it as Bell and Rogers don’t appear to care.I had hoped that this particular booster would help, and though there is a marked improvement, it’s still not without its issues.The attached video is a bit long and if you don’t want to watch it that’s fine, but essentially it is showing you that I went from no connection to a reasonably good speed……..despite the dashboard indicating an imbalanced connection.I have the antenna mounted on the roof of my house high enough up that it looks over the peak, and is pointed in the direction of the nearest cell tower.According to the two closest towers to me (one 12km and the other 16km) I am in an “LTE” zone, yet my phone never shows anything more than 3G…….and even getting that is a lucky break.So using my phone in my house is all but impossible…..but on a clear, cold and calm night I can get a signal.Anyway……after installing the Atcall Booster I (for a brief moment) jumped to 5G, but in the end settled on 2 bars of LTE.I did a speed test before I powered up the unit and it couldn’t complete the task, but when the booster was turned on my speed test hit 1.5Mbs.Okay that’s not killer speeds, but it works and I’m thrilled about it.However here is where I’m at a loss on how I feel about this.The 5 windows that you see on the booster are referring to the different bands available, and if all goes well the results should say “Normal” in as many as possible to get it to work.Well you can clearly see that all mine are Oscillating (which means the signal is bouncing back at itself and causing a conflict), yet my actual results would prove otherwise.I have adjusted both the roof antenna and the internal antenna (booster) in a 360° rotation, and the best I could ever get was 3 Normal’s.Again you would think that was good, but the booster claims to be good for a coverage of up to 5,000SqFt, but if I move 20 feet or so away from the booster I drop back down to 3G?
So does the booster work………Yes it appears to work.Does the booster work as described in the literature……..Not that I can make it work.I still think that I would recommend this as I did see an improvement in my connection speed, but at this moment a 4 star is all I can confidently give.
