I made the simple recipe (1 cup of contents rinsed, 4 cups of water, 1 tsp salt). Instead of salt I added a veggie stock cube. I found that cooking for 60 minutes made a thick soup so next time I'll try 30 or 45 minutes. Maybe also more water. Regardless, it's very tasty, and adding another the veggie stock cube really enhanced the flavour. I think it would be ideal for any kind of stock soup. Very nutritious and filling.

Seems like a no-brainer, however, after I tossed the entire contents of this package into my giant Dutch oven pot with my chicken broth and roast chicken carcass simmering away and all of my vegetables, etc. piled in, I read the Soup Mix package instructions and it said “rinse first”. Obviously, I overlooked that simple step and optimistically adopted the principle that there would be “more protein” in the soup mix without me rinsing first (pro tip: rinse beans first before adding to your soup stock for proper peace of mind!). I will definitely purchase this product again and plan to always have one or two of these packages on hand at any given time. A full package provides an enormous amount of protein and can easily turn your large soup into more of a stew as all of the lentils and peas, etc. expand and absorb all the available liquids in your pot. So one could easily get at least three large-sized chicken soups out of this one package, divided into thirds. An excellent product – another home run from Bob’s Red Mill. Recommended!
