I had some problems initially connecting my smartphone to the device. I had originally set it up with my old phone to test the gauges and logging on a 15 km drive back to the house. It was quick and painless to get running on this clean install though I was prompted to do a firmware update. As it was late at night I decided to wait for morning to do this procedure.
The next morning I tried to do the firmware update on my regular phone. I would download the firmware, press the update button and it would fail every time. Switched to my old phone, it did the update with no issues. Shut that phone off and tried to connect to my daily use phone. More angst as it would have trouble connecting and didn't show the software update properly (displayed "unknown") and any update attempts failed. Numerous trips back in to the house to read the FAQ's etc. and repeated attempts led to much frustration. I was seriously contemplating returning this item as "bricked" but thought I would try their 24/7 Customer Support line first as a last resort.
It was a weekend so I wasn't expecting much. Pleasant surprise, call was picked up on the second ring and a very nice fellow in Newfoundland spent the better part of an hour talking me step by step through everything he could think of to fix this issue. We failed, but not for lack of trying. He bumped my issue up the line to a company engineer or something. As I had to do some driving that day I suggested they send me an e-mail.
I then tried my Android tablet, fresh install, connected immediately and worked perfectly showing the firmware update. This got me comparing the differences between my old phone and the tablet to my daily use phone. The only thing I could find was FordPass on my daily phone.
I examined the FordPass BT pairing and discovered that it had BT access to music and audio which I thought I had disabled on the vehicle. I disabled these on my phone and I immediately was able to connect to BlueDriver and use all functions of the app.
I later checked my e=mail and found a message from the company which I responded to with my discovery of the solution to this problem.
Tech Support has to be one of the best that I have ever had to use for any problem. They answered promptly, did their best to rectify the problem on the first call and after bumping it up the line, a very prompt response from that person as well.
Recommend this product as it has features not found on any of my other ODB scanners or apps. Easy and intuitive to use with just a bit of practice. Worth the price.
