Product description

Big Horn's 6-1/4-Inch Block Plane is fully adjustable, Low blade angle for planning end grain and difficult wood. Heavy cast-iron body is finely machined for precision work. To adjust the cutter blade for thickness of shavings, just loosen the wheel and manually adjust the cutter blade endwise as required. Moveable front piece adjusts throat opening for fine or coarse planning. Lever cap and adjusting mechanism assures solid, accurate blade alignment. High-carbon steel blade hones to a sharp, long-lasting edge.

This is not a piece of junk as some others would have you believe, ok it wasn't perfect out of the box, of course you're going to have to flatten the sole, of course you're going to sharpen the blade square ( horribly out of square with the plane) but this is what we do as woodworkers, no big deal. Once that is done and everything is working it took off some silky smooth shavings from a spruce board. My only complaint is that it is heavier than an original 60 1\2 Stanley block plane of yesteryear, but again , no big deal. For this price you can't go wrong.

This is definitely a contractor/carpenter grade plane. Fit and finish were very poor with rough and irregular castings. Blade sharpened though and despite the difficulty getting it adjusted (adjustment mechanism is abysmally imprecise) I was finally able to get the blade set for a shallow cut for quick trimming like putting a small chamfer on a work piece or shaving down a door to relieve a tight fit.

The fore-sole adjustable mouth has fairly ominous flaws in the dovetail slide, and the wedge doesn't fit straight at all. However, once I sharpened the blade and tucked some tiny copper shims in, it works beautifully! Tackles end-grain like a champ!
