One very good side note: I use Mint Linux 18, and this works with Linux Audacity software without a hitch. I've tried it Windows 10 as well with a Windows version of Audacity and no problem there.
So I haven't tried using it with a PC to transfer music over to mp3 yet. I bought this unit so that I would have the option, but what I needed was a preamp so I could use my Yamaha natural sound av receiver HTR-5930 amplifier.
So if it's not plugged into a PC it will not preamp sound threw the RCA. I tried to use a Amazon basic power brick as well as a Motorola power 15 brick without success. But by using eigther power bricks and using the headphone out jack with a male headphone end to RCA it will preamp. The sound is crisp and clear, good bass that's not muddy. Sound is better then when I was using my old Technics amp. Only issue I see, is that I need to turn up the volume on my receiver quite a bit more then usual.
Bottom line is this device works well. And for the extra 10$ versus the Pyle pro p999 it's nice to know that I have the option of ripping my vinyl to my PC,if I want to. Specially for some music that you can't find as a mp3! It would have been nice to have a slightly higher preamp, but I'm happy nice clear sound and I'm a audiophile. Just a cheap one lol.

One gotcha = Windows assumes any digital input device is mono unless you tell it otherwise so look for the microphone settings in device manager and select 2 channel, otherwise like me your first attempt will be mono. Not the fault of this product though, it's a Windows issue.

Other than that, the quality really is very good, better than the equivalent interface in USB-output vinyl record deck I bought a few years ago. The frequency range is very good, noise is low and the stereo separation is as good as the source signal. Take some time with your source to setup up the record levels in Audacity, I found 70% worked best for me as a good compromise between too high (which results in clipping and distortion) or too low, which might introduce noise. You will obviously also need to set the level on your signal source, but with some careful rest recordings it is easy to get right. I use the “normalise” effect in Audacity to normalise recordings afterwards. As a tip if you notice normalisation on Audacity is resulting in substantial increases in the average signal level after normalisation, then your initial record level is probably set too low.
There is only one minor bug, which catches out many people (and I suspect results in negative reviews). On setting up, Windows recognises the interface but as a mono source, so even though the Audacity setup indicates stereo recording, you are actually only recording a single input channel on both recorded channels. This in my view is a Windows issue, it is not a fault with the interface or Audacity. I made several recordings before I realised that they were all mono recordings. The fix is easy in Windows and several other reviews of this interface have good instructions on how to fix this. Once done recording is in stereo.
