A lot of assembly but worth all the time and effort
4 Stars
A lot of assembly but worth all the time and effort
I had no idea before I got into it that assembling this LED pole lamp and learning how to operate it would be such a challenge. The assembly paper instructions are poor, but the online videos are very helpful. The remote control is fairly (albeit not perfectly) intuitive, but learning where and how to aim it and from what distance is not. The lighting options available are seemingly limitless -and intoxicating too- but switching from one to the other at times requires an IT degree. In the end, is it worth all the effort for the fun and function gained from this "Bcmsda"-branded corner/pole lamp? The assembly is both simple and trying. The extruded aluminium pole sections slide together easily and are secured by two tiny set screws at each joint; see photos. The kit comes with a magnetic screw driver, much appreciated as otherwise assemblers would be spending time on all fours looking for runaway, near-microscopic set screws. A note to the wise: make certain you familiarize yourself with the two end pieces of the pole before final assembly and installation of the set screws. Also, a dress rehearsal connecting the power chord to the pole terminus, then the pole to the base and finally installing the white silicone diffuser-lens into the extruded aluminum pole is highly recommended.I found some of the video demonstrations and suggestions were not helpful; I needed my wealth of D-I-Y experience at several points to assess and come up with different techniques. My discoveries: a) do not try to slide the silicone diffuser up the extrusion from one end of the shaft to the other; the friction was so high that not even WD40 would facilitate insertion via this technique. I learned to pinch the diffuser into place an inch at a time and working both edges of the diffuser, starting at the top of the pole. This is exactly what I did when installing the LED strip, but ONLY after ensuring the previously-installed set screws were ALL tight including those installed by the factory. Assume nothing is my motto; all screws needed re-tightening. b) the half cover installed on the bottom of the pole at the base does NOT push into place; instead it SLIDES down over the preinstalled other half until the two are fully engaged, similar to the process of connecting the pole sections. c) pay close attention to how and where the power chord is affixed to the bottom of the pole, before attaching the weighted floor base of the lamp; see photo. d) carefully align the push-together electrical connectors before pushing them together and threading down the locking nut. e) familiarize yourself with the 3 push-button control at the base of the light; when the remote presents challenges you are unwilling to confront, as it surely will, old-fashioned push buttons are most welcome... but even they are a bit of a mystery. In Canada, red means "Stop" and green means "Go", but on the remote control the ON button is RED! Not intuitive. Also, so far, I've found the response by the light to my remote commands is only about 75% reliable, resulting in a lot of double pushing with unpredictable results. That sounds like enough assembly and control frustration to discourage users, but when the user gets the pole lamp doing as directed, be that white room light, mood movie room light or beat-generated dance & party light patterns, the results are very satisfying. The grandkids will absolutely LOVE the effects. Maybe they can teach me how to use the App I downloaded to my phone to make this a 100% success story. I've not yet tried to pair this pole light with a Google Home or Alexa app; I'm leaving that for another day when I need some more humbling.Final thoughts: if you are patient and can assemble this pole lamp carefully, and if you are prepared for the learning curve ahead, you will find this well-made (but fairly lightweight) addition to your living/movie room lighting very worthwhile. 4.5 out of 5, but it would have been a 3.5 if I wasn't so darned determined and patient.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I have a few of these lamps and they work amazingly in several of the rooms in our house. They are great for bedrooms to provide ambient “nightlight” lighting for our kids, they are awesome in our home gym for playing in sync with bass-heavy music to amp up our workouts and they are unreal in our home theater room when watching movies on the big screen.

Up until now I only had one in the theatre room and really wanted to have a second one to place on either side of the large projection screen.

I was cautious to check the listing prior to ordering though because I had two previous ones where one was completely defective and very poorly designed and the other was similarly designed to this one but instead of a nice thick silicone strip it was a cheaper hard plastic strip and it just didn’t perform as well.

This lamp assembles exactly like my other ones that have the same design and heavy silicone strip so I was familiar with the process and was able to assemble it fairly quickly.

I like that you can switch out or replace the LED strip easily and I may do that as I have some high end ones but for now O used the ones provided.

The base is weighted enough that it stays put but not so heavy it’s too cumbersome to move around easily if needed.

Once assembled you can decide how you want it to face - with the strip facing a wall for more ambient lighting or facing the user for a more visually stimulating experience.

We have a Google mesh and Google Home and use Alexa and this works well with it.

The remote is very fun to use and the app gives so many options it’s almost overwhelming. The most fun is the sound-activated modes. You can have it respond to your voice so the kids got a huge kick yelling and seeing it mimic their yelling with lights and colors.

It matches perfectly with the other one already in the theater room even though it’s from a different brand so together they look awesome and does it ever level up the movie-viewing and gaming experience.

Honestly these are such versatile lights and we love them. The quality and performance of this one is fantastic and well worth the assembly and investment so I would highly recommend. 🍿🎬

I've used a few pole lamps now and this is a pretty nice one. Firstly, while it looks daunting, installation is relatively easy. The black metal poles slide into each other and onto the base. The white silicone cover then snaps on. You need to attach the included LED roll onto the silicone cover with the double sided tape, but it's relatively easy to do.

Unlike other pole lamps, I like how the white silicone is all one piece, so there are no small lines or gaps where the pieces attach. It's also a pretty nice feature to be able to replace the LED lights in case they stop working- this company offers free replacements for 1 year.

The light itself is pretty nice. There are tons of colours and patterns to choose from to suit your decor. I do find that because the silicone cover is not fully transparent, it does muffle the colours a bit, but this also helps blend and smooth the colours in exchange.

Note the pole needs to stay plugged in to work. It can be controlled by buttons on the pole itself, but there is more variety with the remote or app. Voice control with Alexa or Google Home is a nice touch. Happy with this product.
