Troubleshooting

Symptom:

- Bulbs turn off while being dimmed.

- Bulbs turn on at high light level but do not turn on at a low light level, or take too long to turn on at low end.

- Bulbs flicker or flash when dimmed do a low light level.

- Bulbs or dimmers are buzzing.

Solution:

1. Verify all bulbs are marked dimmable.

2. Remove wallplate and locate sensitivity dial.

3. Turn up (counter-clockwise) sensitivity dial slowly until symptom is no longer present.

No flickering, even at extreme low levels, with most of bulb types. If you find it flickering, check the line load.

For example, if happens to have on the same line lots of big consumers it may occasionally flicker, otherwise with quality LED bulbs there is no flicker.

THe idea is, when you slide the dimmer to the highest setting, you're expect the bulbs to shine the brightest, well, one of them, was misconfigures, and still is, when you slide it to the highest setting it gives you like 80% brightness, but when you pinch it slightly back towards the lowest setting, like just a pinch, it gives you the 100%, so I suppose this. was defected, was a hassle to return so I kept it...

I also had an issue with one of the dimmers in the duo pack. i was offered to return the both for credit but preferred getting a replacement. I am building an addition to my house and I have all my electrical supplies from this company(switches, single pole and three way, réceptacles with and without USB chargers, dimmers including wifi also face plates single, double and triple) this dimmer was the first piece that gig not function properly. everything else worked great. I found their product to be of excellent quality, well built sturdy and dependable. I hot a replacement dimmer in two days, yeah,two. the dimmers do require some micro adjustments but with the money I saved on all this equipment, I could afford the extra 3 minutes in labor. A great product at a very reasonable price and an outstanding after sales service.

I installed one to replace a flickering dimmer switch on a three way for two side table lamps. It worked flawlessly out of the box. It was nice to dial in the brightness with the adjustment dial.

The second I installed as a single pole on a bed side lamp. Initially, there was almost no range of dimming. No mater how I adjusted the dial the dimmer was basically on/off. I had read about a similar experience in the one star reviews. BUT, before I gave up, I replaced the unknown brand LED bulb that came with the lamp with a GE bulb. It worked perfectly!

The media could not be loaded.

Background: After purchasing dimmable LED lights, to replace my incandescent lights, when dimming the LEDs they would blink instead of dim. Since my light switch were old (about 13 years) I decided to replace the dimming switches before returning the lights. The fixtures now operate absolutely flawlessly.

The single cover plate, which comes with the dimmer, is slightly shorter, and also thinner/flimsier, than a typical cover plate. This is not really a problem unless someone painted around the old plates without removing them first then you might have to do a paint touch up or, just buy new plates or reuse your old one.

Installation of these dimmers was easy and straightforward provided you identify the hot/common wire prior to removing the old switch.

For those who have not worked with 3-way switches before, the diagram used in the instructions is just ONE (most common) of several ways a three-way switch might be wired. If your switch does not have a 14/2 (or could be 12/2) wire coming in and a 14/3 going out, as depicted in the diagram and, instead, have just one 14/3 wire coming in, do not assume the black wire is the hot or common. IN my case it was a white wire that needed to be attached to the switches black wire. SO, in short, just take note of which wires go to your old switch: connect the black wire of this new switch, to whatever wire was connected to the black terminal/screw on your old switch and the other two traveler wires, to this switches red wires you will then be all set ..

Update: I updated this to 5 star because I purchased two name Brand switches for my guest bedroom and bath. Even being a name brand, they did not have a dimmer adjustment screw like these do. While they worked with incandescent lights, when I put LEDs in, the lights would turn off about halfway through the throw of the dimmer switch and, there was no way to adjust the dimmer like these switches have.

//UPDATE// - I replaced these with a Leviton SureSlide dimmer switch and hooked it up exactly the same way as the BESTTEN dimmers had been. The Leviton works perfectly. Smooth, even dimming and no flickering at all.

//Original Review// - I bought these BESTTEN dimmers to soften the bright lights in the kitchen and a hallway in a home we recently bought. I was sure to buy dimmable LED light bulbs as well. This dimmer does technically dim the lights, but it does it in such a way that they are either on full brightness or are very dim. There is no in between.

When moving the dimmer slider to the right, they stay fully lit until at one particular spot they go to fully dim and start flickering. If you go a fraction of an inch past that the flickering stops and they stay fully dim. Besides the slider, there is a small sensitivity dial to the right of the on/off switch, but no amount of adjusting that made any difference. There were two of these in the order, and both of them did the same thing.

Just to make sure my bulbs were good, I removed a dimmable LED bulb from a different part of the house that was working fine on a different dimmer switch (different brand), but the same problem occurred when I screwed it in to this circuit. These are going back to Amazon.

Both of those failed after a few months. One has been replaced by a far more expensive switch, one a regular non-dimmer, and the others are still working perfectly.
