This is first and foremost a body cam designed for law enforcement. The casing is tough and feels like it would be impact resistant. I mean, it’s not going to survive a fall from 20 feet onto concrete, but it feels tough enough to withstand everyday bumps and bruises. The two clips that come with it work well. There is a large clip designed for belts and a smaller one that seems to be designed for shirt pockets. The overall outward appearance of this camera is good. It doesn’t look or feel cheap.
Initial set up was fairly simple. The instructions provided are better than most that come with this type of product but honestly, the first thing I do when I receive a product like this is Google the model and look for some online instructions from someone who has actually used it. It’s a timesaver. I was able to change the video settings and set up my own password. Yes, you need a password to make any changes to the camera settings or to view the videos on the camera. There is no way to bypass this. Not a big deal, but sometimes annoying. The picture quality is quite good for a camera at this price point. It defaults to 1280x720 30p 16:9. I ramped that up to 1920x1080 30p 16:9. There are plenty of options. Remember, the higher the picture quality, the more space it will consume on the 64 gig of internal memory. For me, that’s not an issue. I’m not going to be shooting all day long so shaving an hour or so off my memory capacity is not an issue. Speaking of memory, the camera offers 64gig of internal storage. That’s it. There is no option to add an mico-sd card. 64 gig should be plenty of space for the average user but the ability to add an sd card would have been nice.
Battery life if good. In fact, it’s excellent. I used the camera for about 4 hours and the battery usage only showed that I had used about 1 bar. I feel like this camera would easily go all day long for the average person. I didn’t get a chance to try out the “super night vision” but I would suspect, based on everything else I’ve used one this device, it would work well.
I love this camera and I love almost everything about it. Yes, I said almost. It has one flaw but unfortunately, I consider it a big one. It’s not a dealbreaker but it does bug me. The camera comes with a “Mini B” usb cable. It’s not a common connection. The entire electronics industry is finally realizing we don’t need dozens of different proprietary usb cables and they are transitioning over to the widely used USB-C format. Even Apple has dropped their lightning connector in favour of USB-C. Why do they ship this device with a silly usb “mini-b” connection? It means every time I want to charge it, or transfer files I have to go find that one weird cable in my collection. It’s a small thing but it is worth noting. I’m taking one star off my review because of it.
In conclusion, if you are a security guard or law enforcement officer and you’re looking for a tough, well built body cam that will get the job done day in and day, I think this will fit your needs. If you are just average dude like me who wants to record weird POV vids, I will also fit you your needs. It’s a decent camera for a great price. I recommend this product.
