My kids Chromebooks finally bit the dust and we really did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on new one when they are only using them to watch YouTube and play Roblox or Minecraft. We decided to try our luck with the Fire HD8 tablets even though some reviews said Roblox would not work or crashed. So far on day two and it only crashed one time. Perhaps the reviews our outdated as when we noticed it asks to go in game mode as soon as launched the app. What I really liked was it auto connected to my amazon account for easy install.Kids love them and prefer them to the Chromebook so it’s a win-win for us.If you can use an android phone then you can use this tablet. Keep in mind that it uses Amazon OS so will be slightly different.Overall, a good started tablet or budget device.

I just bought this Fire Tablet HD 8 12th generation on sale at a great price to replace my 2 year old Fire HD 8 10th gen model. Previously to buying into Fire, I've owned a string of iPads but for the price, I really can't fault these Fire tablets at all. I use it primarily for reading ePubs, streaming music, email and a bit of social media. It ticks all these boxes at a very reasonable price. I'm not noticing much difference in overall performance with the 12th gen over the 10th gen but at this price point and the 5 equal payments option, I couldn't resist. The setup with this new model was seamless and quickly restored all the settings from backups of my older model. With a simple install of play store, I was good to go. I bought the 32GB model and simply boosted storage with an inexpensive Micro SD card. The Fire HD 8 (12th Gen) meets my requirements.

So, I've had this about a month now. I'm on limited income and can't afford more expensive, and yes, there's a tradeoff with that. But it's not horrible.

The good: You get a long of bang for your buck. Keeping in mind the price, you get a fully functioning tablet. It does the job and it does it well, though sometimes a little slower than other tablets with more processing power.

The bad: Those transitioning over from Apple will be in for some app shock. There are very few apps that us Apple users are used to having. There's no Reddit app, no Discord app (well, there are - but they suck) and the huge selection of authorized apps that Apple has are not seen here.
If you want any of the 'big' apps, like Monopoly Go or other very heavy memory-using apps, they will not function due to not enough processor power and will crash.
This is also an Andriod device. The protections and much less invasive usage Apple users are used to are not found here. You have to do some customizing (which you'll need to Google for on how to do, as some are hidden a tad too cleverly) to get some of the stupidity shut down/turned off, but it IS possible and doesn't take long.

The ugly: When using web pages, tapping on links can be difficult. Something is a little off with where your finger touches vs. where it actually touches. This means that, if you are on a page that is link heavy, you might not get what you are tapping at and might have to tap a little higher/lower than you're used to.
In regards to the lack of app availability, one of the more ugly things is that there are no banking apps. I'm fine not having an app for frivolous things like Discord or Reddit (and yet they certainly have Crackbook, Instagram, and TikTok, annoyingly), but not having bank apps is just ugh.

Overall, you get exactly what you pay for: A less expensive option to the iPad or bigger tablets. In doing so, you give up some things (like fast processor speed, accuracy, and apps), but I don't find that a horrible thing, especially as I can't afford a bigger device. This one does what I want: Function as a tablet, e-reader, and movie/TV watcher.

The apps for streaming devices are alive and well, which is a Very Big Deal for most users. I'd recommend this to anyone as an alternative to bigger (and by 'bigger', I mean bigger processors) tablets, but this is not the device you'd buy when you want to get some serious work done.

This tablet is okay for reading documents for school, listening to music, or watching shows/YouTube, however, it lacks in almost every other capacity. It is slow, 'janky,' and has minimal battery life. In addition to this, the app store has almost nothing interesting or good, lots of shoddy apps and games with a few exceptions. Have not used it as much as I hoped I would.

As a long time Mac user, I am pleasantly surprised with this tablet. I know it is set up for entertainment only, but I have already used it for product research, and blog writing for my business. I can set it on a small stand beside my laptop and open Power Thesaurus, which I use a fair bit for writing. It is easier than switching back and forth online. My original intent was to take it camping this summer, so I can watch videos in the evening, check emails, use the Internet, etc. It means I do not have to worry about taking an expensive MacBook Pro while camping. I have only had this little tablet a couple of days, and so far, I can see it will come in handy.

This is an awesome tablet, especially, for the price. No, you can’t install Google Playstore but I found that a plus because you are not bombarded by Google ads, and everything annoying about Google. Google clutter is just not there. I am not into installing lots of apps, and the apps I use are already installed, except for
YouTube. But, you can still go to their site. The tablet is fast and has 32 gigs of ram which is plenty for most people. The sound is really great for such a small tablet. It’s pretty fast too. The screen is very crisp and clear. Browsing. Is a nice experience as well, and it scrolls nice. I bought mine at Best Buy for $79.99 when it was on sale. I really recommend it and it and think it’s a neat little tablet. I liked it so much I just had to leave a review.
