She actually recognizes your voice. It fun to turn the tvs, night lights, lock the doors, get the weather fore cast etc. We turn our bedroom lamp on as they are expensive antiques and we don't want to be banging them around. So it's Alexa turn on the bedroom lamps. Voila. Light. The hall lights when coming in from the garage, lock the door, unlock the door, turn on the Christmas tree, & off, etc. The voice is clear and volume can be set by voice. Alexa "play Christmas songs" and on it comes.
Lots to do and learn with this system tho! if you want to watch ho get the bigger echo. it's not much more money and well worth it for the bigger screen. You can get alexa to find stuff and get directions as well. She will turn on Smart tvs, but not the older Samsung or Sharp that used a web page that isn't in existence any more. I found that odd as it doesn't cost anything, but the TV asks for a code from there,

Most of the time Alexa doesn't know what I am asking for (and yes I use same wording each time) and I have to swipe the down arrow and open the device manually.
I wish there was an option to have the Ring Doorbell stay visible until I want it not to. It does however automatically comes on when it detects motion so that is good. I like the fact that it has a speaker and a mic.

I already had one of these units but Amazon had them on sale so I decided to buy another one for my kitchen. The picture quality is excellent and the sound is amazing considering its compact size. I’d recommend buying the stand for the unit as it really gives it an even better look. The one in my bedroom I use as an alarm clock. You can set it to wake up to your favourite music artist. It connects to the internet flawlessly. I use it to get the latest sports highlights and news. I really like using the voice command feature. Alexa can answer a wide variety of questions. I will use this one in my kitchen to find recipes, to listen to music while I cook and to compile my weekly shopping list. I also use it to turn on and off a variety of lights and power switches in my home You also can get a huge variety of add on smart home devices. As I said I liked my first one so much I bought a second. You won’t be disappointed and will like I did, wonder why you hadn’t bought one sooner. I don’t know what other recommendation I could give it.

Really does control the whole home. Alexa will pretend to turn off when too many questions from the grandkids. Has trouble with Bluetooth too close to the WiFi system. Looses communications to all Bluetooth devices when they are turned off and on manually too many times - need to train the wife. To correct this the Echo Show has to be unplugged temporarily. After power up the Bluetooth has to be picked to rescan all Bluetooth devices. Note - after installing 20 plus lights from dollarxxx - do not tell the grandkids that you can get Alexa to change them to any colour all at once. Sometimes takes awhile to set thermostat or air cleaner to correct mode. Still cannot get the vacuum to alert me when it gets moved off the charger. Camera doorbells and security cameras work great.

I bought the kids version of the echo 5 show twice, and they both kept freezing. I checked the reviews, and this one seemed to not have the same issue. Plugged it in tonight, and working fine so far. Must be an issue with the kids version. Amazon might want to look into this, but those one seems great so far...

Whatever is near useless to me works well, lots of bloatware but I knew this before buying.
Problem is the 3 things I need it to do it doesn't do well.

1) display frontdoor camera when motion at camera detected (with a doorbell press- it does display on echo show) however with motion detected it only gives an audio alert. The work around of a routine to do this does not work. Display doesn't wake from monitor off mode. It does work with spoken command though- so this is very strange.

2) photos wallpaper- took forever to set up properly (and I'm fairly tech savy), only 10photos possible, also device prefers energy save modes so it stops displaying photos regularly. Device was not designed as a photo album viewer priority.

3) show all cameras- with a spoken command it works, if you want a screen to monitor all cameras this device nor any I'm aware of will do that for ring. Camera display also time out after 10mins.

Music on echo show 5 sucks, there's barely any mid range, bass is boomy and exaggerated, treble is non existent (adjusting treble on tone controls makes no difference because the speaker can't reporduce this range). Oh and echo show 5 speaker is MONO, there's only 1 speaker.

Echo show 8 sound quality is tons better and is stereo. Other functions 5 and 8 are same- with the abundance of poor user interface and issues.

I have all "contents" except weather turned off. Note: do not use weather widget if your "weather" in "home contents" are turned on as this is redundant, oversight?
Alexa commands are fairly reliable even when whispering so this is impressive. Music is free (as I have Prime) so this is convenient but not the reason for purchasing these units.

Touchscreen is fairly responsive but nothing like a modern phone, maybe an mediocre android phone from 5yrs ago.

Even though I purchased both units on sale I feel it's still not worth the cost as there's too many issues. I may return both units and hope they get refinements in future (and not more ads like Amazon attempted to do with 2023 Echo Show 8 (that's not available in Canada).

This product was designed with greed in mind, doesn't benefit the consumer much. If you like to make more purchased through amazon using Alexa, or watch TV or play games it's just fine. I can't only really see myself using these if I were sick in bed (no tv in bedroom) and wanted a larger screen (vs echo show 8) than my iphone, I wouldn't watch a movie using the show 5 as my phone has a better display.
