Even from across the room and from any direction thanks to built-in mics and speakers. Enjoy convenient control of your entertainment, hands-free.
“Alexa, play 'Transformers: EarthSpark.'“

**** Solution found for my issues ****
It turns out to be an issue with blue tooth. I was using a Bose Soundlink Mini 2, paired with blue tooth. Both the sound and video where very choppy and required constant reboots. I ended up unpairing blue tooth and hooked up with a cabled mini jack. Problem fixed and the Cube works great!!
I live in a higher density condo, and it would seem that there is signal interference from neighboring equipment, as best that I can figure out. I will now have to rethink my sound equipment, but at least I know there is a workable solution. So very happy!!
Yes they are a little more expensive than a fire stick, but if you aren’t pressed for space it’s absolutely worth it IMO.
The firestick 4K max is great, but I’d still take the cube over that as well.
The cosmetic appearance of the Cube is nicer than the 2nd gen. The fabric front and sides feel and look like current Alexa speakers.
It was incredibly easy to set up.
Once I put in my account credentials the Cube asked if I wanted to migrate the apps I had on my 2nd gen. I clicked "accept" and in a few minutes Disney+, HBO Max, and similar just appeared in the app drawer.
It is quicker navigating the menus, going through the apps.
There is a subtle improvement in picture quality.
You will notice it if you have 60" or larger TV.
I'm also an audiophile.
The sound quality from Amazon Music and Tidal is EXCELLENT.
A dedicated TOSLink on the back of the cube would be nice. Also there is no native Qobuz app available for audio streaming.
Amazon, if you're reading this? Please get us a native Qobuz app.
The HDMI in port on the back of the unit is a good idea for people who have few HDMI ports on their TV.
What is EXTREMELY disappointing is the 10/100 LAN port. In Canada, we have speeds of 1gigabit per second and higher. I will try to use the USB port with an external gigabit adapter and see if it works. (a usb c input would have been nice.)
The new remote it comes with feels better in your hand than the 2nd gen one.
Other reviewers are disappointed that the new remote coming in November doesn't come with the cube.
I'm ok with that.
I understand the street price for the new cube needed to be under $200 CAD.
I also have an extensive smart home setup with Amazon speakers, Echo Shows and Alexa certfied doorbells and security cameras.
This is where this 3rd gen cube just SHINES, it is integrated with my smart home. The voice commands are very convenient which is something the Apple TV and Nvidia shield don't if I recall correctly. I get alerts on my TV when a package arrives.
With voice commands I can see my cameras on my TV or see who is at the door when the doorbell rings.
I also own two Nvidia shield devices, the Pro and entry level one.
The Nvidia product does have a slightly better picture compared to the Cube devices.
I like the Gigabit Lan port they come with.
I still will use the Cubes as my daily drivers.
The Alexa integration with my other devices just makes it easier for my daily life.
Should you get one right away?
I wouldn't if you are happy with your current device.
I would wait until we most likely see Black Friday prices.
I'm guessing that they will be half price, putting them under the $100 CAD mark.
Amazon? You had a chance to just make an absolutely killer device.
You just slightly missed the mark. I'd have given 5 stars, but just couldn't.
I'd have given this device 5 stars with some small improvements:
A Gigabit Lan port. 10/100? Really? Poor choice.
A USB C port to install a gigabit 3rd party adapter.
A TOS link (fibre optic) output. This would allow a user to run a TOS link cable directly to their receiver.
Some value priced TV's don't have that specific TOS link output.
I know this wouldn't have been feasible with mass production but a Fire Cube Pro with these improvements mentioned above would have made us tech guys happy. I'd have paid more for it.
Again, should you buy one?
I'd wait until we see Black Friday prices if you're on the fence.
Your 2nd Gen Cube is almost as good as the 3rd Gen Cube.
If it were a horse race? The 3rd Gen Cube would win by a nose...
For both IPTV and Kodi, the Nvidia Shield produced a clearer, sharper image than the Fire TV Cube. There was a noticeable difference in performance when using it for IPTV. There was occasional buffering with the Shield, very similar to the Firestick 4K Max. With the Fire TV Cube, there was no buffering at all, through 4 days of side by side comparison. I went back and forth between both, playing the exact same channels and movies, on the same TV, with the same HDMI cable, the same distance from the router, etc.
I have to say I was not expecting that and was very surprised, but that is my honest assessment.
So for anyone who only uses the Shield to watch movies on Kodi or other platforms, or in addition uses it for gaming, I am sure that it is near perfect. In an apples to apples comparison, the Fire TV Cube was much better for IPTV.
The picture quality, while not as good as the Shield, was still very good, very close to the same. I can happily live with that given the superior performance with IPTV. Throw in the price difference of over $100 CAD, and it made the decision a no brainer.
I waited until it was discounted $20 before buying it, and would think that there will occasionally be even bigger discounts, the same as all the other Firestick products.
