Purchase options and add-ons
The last place city girl Cecily Kennedy expected to end up was a cattle ranch.
But she needs a job—and refuge from her abusive soon-to-be-ex-husband.
If only her new boss, Austin Wells, would make it clear whether he hates her or wants her. His gaze makes her feel things she hasn’t in years. Though getting over her ex by getting under her grumpy boss isn’t worth the potential fallout.
Austin’s a gruff, no-nonsense rancher who’s seriously regretting letting his head cook hire her own help. As far as he’s concerned, Cecily won’t be sticking around for long. Nobody ever stays. And the wedding ring indent still on her finger makes her more trouble than she’s worth.
When Cecily’s past catches up with her, Austin discovers that she’s already placed a branding iron on his heart. He wants her to stay. First, he needs to keep her safe.
CW/TW: domestic violence (on page), physical violence (on page), death of parent and grandparent (discussed), troubled parent-adult child relationship (discussed), alcohol consumption (on page), ranching activities (branding, castration, vaccination, roping - on page), explicit sex scenes

Y’all!!! This is an AMAZING debut! Check triggers but it was so well written, gosh that first chapter just hits so hard!
I LOVED their interactions and the banter! Fantastic side characters and Beryl is EVERYTHING!
Both MCs come so far and I was so impressed with both of their development!
Plot: 4.5/5
Well, it’s official….reading this book was like stepping back in time and reliving some of the best and some of the worst parts of my twenties. Now grab a coffee, this is gunna take a few minutes cuz I have a lot to unpack lol.
Alive and Wells is about a woman named Cecily who escapes an abusive relationship and ends up working on a cattle ranch in northern BC, heck yea Canada! Now, I find that a lot of authors these days fail to convey the emotional turmoil that a woman in that situation struggles with, but Bailey did a phenomenal job of accurately portraying that internal battle and the back and forth that actually happens. I feel like one of the things that a lot of people don’t realize about healing from an abusive relationship is how long it actually takes. The PTSD from it, the unexpected things that can trigger you, it’s a lot to deal with and Bailey absolutely hit the nail on the head with both the story arc and Cecily’s.
Austin was….. I honestly don’t even know how to describe Austin lol. And not for lack of character development or anything like that but just because he reminded me of bits and pieces of a couple different people all rolled into one guy lol. The way he calls Cecily darlin’ - lord help me, the swoon is real. I can hear it in my head perfectly but it’s in my ex’s voice (not the abusive one lol) and I take issue with that because I don’t want to be reading about this amazing man and hearing an ex’s voice in my head, no matter how amazing that voice was lol. Thankfully the rest of Austin and the way he treats Cecily and his personality reminds me of my husband so it did kind of even out, but it was a real weird character experience for me. Again, not in a bad way - it was just a very odd personal thing. Plus the way Austin was both dominant and protective, yet gentle and understanding with her despite his own past trauma, was really beautiful.
The rest of the book was perfection and gave me some decent Yellowstone vibes. Bailey hit it out of the park with the representation of ranch life and how cowboys really are and it was so refreshing. PLUS we’ve finally got a bronc rider on the roster and dang am I excited!! All you ladies getting excited about these little bull riders in other books, you don’t even know lol. Not to mention, I’m sitting there reading about one of Austin’s friends/workers named Colt who’s just an absolutely adorable idiot and wouldn’t you know it, one of my best friends and the guy always getting into stupid stuff when we’d go to Cabs (here in Alberta, we call rodeo barn dances Cabaret’s aka Cabs) was named Colter lol. Um, I’m sorry… is this my life I’m reading about? lol. And it’s just little things like that throughout this entire book that really made it such a good read for me. So so much of it resonated with my real life experiences and I was completely here for it!
Exhales loudly… alright so that’s it lol. I mean it’s not, cuz I could keep going on about how much I loved this but you guys really just need to experience it for yourselves!
Bailey, this was one hell of a debut!! Congratulations!! And if you ever wanna do rodeo season Alberta style, lemme know lol.

So good!!
The storyline was paced well, spice was well done (barn scene 🥵) and as the reader I was able to feel the connection between the two main characters.

I was blown away by this book. Like the title says I found there to be just the right amount of everything for my liking. I have never been a fan of a third act break up in romances and the author found a way to avoid that while still creating stakes.
I found the romance to be a good build with just enough pining and longing before you get to the good stuff. You can see why these two people fell in love and that can be one of the hardest things to do.
I can’t wait for the next one!
Bailey Hannah did an incredible job in this debut, weaving suspense, raw emotion, and humor together so beautifully. Set on a gorgeous rural property, everything about this story really came alive (AND WELLS—had to, sorry) and I was absolutely pulled in by the very first chapter, all the way to the end. I loved the unique setting on a cattle ranch with our rugged Not-A-Cowboy Austin and a ragtag bunch of actual cowboys—who I am so excited to read more about in the rest of the series!
Austin is prime book boyfriend material (the stern brunch daddy who would scoff at the very idea of brunch) and who doesn't love a man with a past tragic heartbreak learning to love again? Cecily was a fantastic character who had me rooting for her (and her relationship with Austin) from the get-go. I love love looooved this book. The slow burn was perfect for who they were and where they were in their lives, and the spice was fantastic when it finally hit—and there was plenty of it! An easy five stars from me.

Austin & Cecily are amazing characters, written beautifully, they’re both strong but vulnerable, stubborn but open, and grow so much throughout the book. I loved the progression of their relationship and their relationships with other characters in the book as well. This one’s a slow burn but when you get to the spice it’s perfect! I really loved this one, the writing was fantastic, the story roped me in and kept me captivated the whole time and I think Hannah did a great job portraying the heartbreak these two have been through and the healing they both experience.
This was a top read for me so far this year with a great mix of Cowboy/ranch life, grumpy sunshine, romance, found family, humor and overall amazing storytelling. Can’t wait for the next book!
Seriously, Alive And Wells was my first cowboy romance, but I liked it so much that I think I'll be stuck in my cowboy romance era for a while. I'm definitely going to stay for the whole Wells Ranch Series!
I absolutely loved Austin and Cecily's story. Cecily is such a strong and resilient woman. She truly deserves to be loved in the right way. Enter Austin: the most adorable grumpy not-a-cowboy with the biggest heart. They are so perfect together that it's impossible not to root for them from page one. The tension, the bickering, the banter, the chemistry, the spice... everything in this book is so well written! This story will make you scream, giggle, tear up, silly smile, sweat, and swoon hard. Seriously, one moment you'll be like "awwww, look at these two adorable dummies", and the next you'll be like "uuuuuh, it's getting hot in here", and finally you'll be like "take my heart, it's yours!". And all within the first 100 pages!
Boooy, I loved Alive And Wells so much that I can't wait to go back to Wells Ranch! Luckily, book 2 of this series will be published soon!

My initial reaction to reading this one, was denial that it is a debut novel.
Obsessed.
To say I’m excited for the next instalment is an understatement.
It did start with more of a suspenseful beginning, which is a little bit different for a romance novel. I admire how it touched on domestic violence, and what recovery from that can look like.
Cecily arrives at Wells Ranch not in the most conventional of ways, as a result Austin does not want a city girl on his ranch.
Austin himself is also broken for various reasons mainly revolving around abandonment, which has left him with deep scars.
The banter between these two, while they are both pining for each other is chefs kiss 💋
Watching the way these two enable each other’s healing process to begin, and the patience that they both have for one another was so soul filling
