At this price point, I was expecting something that'd simply be “OK”, but gotta say that I'm impressed by the overall quality of this boom stand, it's primarily metal (cast aluminum) construction with a few plastic parts here & there, which should (if not abused) withstand years of use.
Stability is great – once tightened onto a desk or table, there is little to no movement on the arm sections, they stay firmly positioned. Some may question the lack of tension springs (which are a common feature on arms), but they aren't needed on this model as they wouldn't be useful – being a low profile style arm, adding springs would overcomplicate the design and wouldn't add anything to the functionality. If your boom arm is reaching up and over a console or monitor screens, that's where you'd want tension springs, to help provide stability in that situation. But for a low profile set up? Not needed.
Cord management is provided by clips inside the arm sections.
Testing things out with a Neumann TLM103 & shock mount (combined weight of nearly 1KG), the stand was rock-solid and with no noticeable flex when put into a completely extended position.
For podcasters or home video producers, this would be a great addition to the studio, but could also be used for remote location work, as the stand is lightweight and could easily be stowed into a gear bag.
