I've always had high-tier gaming laptops but this one really surprised me for the versatility. When "flipped" the windows UI turns into "tablet mode" with bigger icons and a virtual keyboard (it comes up when you select a text box) so that it is more easy to use touchscreen controls. The screen is also vibrant and nice but be mindful, this IS NOT an OLED screen, it is an IPS screen. It is not clear which screen is it on this amazon listing for some reason. I thought it was oled at the beginning judging by the box i received and by the marketing on this device but this is NOT the one with the oled screen. Also be mindful that this is a 16:10 screen so 16:9 content (like tv series) will have smaller black bars on top and bottom.

I also like that when flipped and with a shape like a "V" it occupies little space on a desk and I found easy to connect it to the TV because it could fit easily on the TV stand. Also while eating it is quite nice to watch something on it because it is basically a tablet with a kickstand. Then it can return to "laptop mode" when you want and the hinges have the feel to be very durable.

CPU is new and performant. It is even good for the integrated graphics. Expensive windows gaming handhelds like ASUS ROG ally, Lenovo Legion Go and Ayaneo/GPD devices use similar AMD CPUs to this one. So you can play some games on this laptop. But be mindful, it's not like having a dedicated GPU especially at the full 1900x1200 resolution.

The only thing I didn't like is that the fingerprint (and power) button is not so easily accessible while in tablet mode (because it's on the keyboard part) and the fingerprint WON'T work in tablet mode, so you'll have to use the pin in that case. I would have liked to have a fingerprint reader on the touchscreen as well like for phones.

An all-around versatile media center and productivity device with excellent style and build quality. Hybrid laptop and Windows tablet with a touch screen Corning Gorilla Glass WUXGA 60Hz IPS display. All metal body. Fingerprint sensor. The backlit keyboard looks & feels great; a responsive enlarged touchpad toggles a virtual numeric pad overlay in the panel.

It features "certified Harman Kardon Dolby Atmos" stereo sound; the volume and speaker sound are good, for a notebook, but the full potential will be appreciated with external outputs (including Dolby Atmos content via HDMI to TV and compatible soundbars). High quality array microphones. The 1080p webcam has nice quality enhancements and a privacy shutter.

Performance is on par with the best of its class. Eight-cores, 16 threads, the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U CPU typically benchmarks highly among the current generation of mobile processors. Connectivity and I/O ports feature great specs including both USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 and HDMI 2.1 TMDS. A strong platform for video encoding and multi-tasking. For games, the integrated graphics are better than Intel UHD 630 and should run light or older titles fine with lowered settings. Decently quiet fan too.

Real battery usage is around 6-10 hours of demand (for example, continuous video play); it will last all day for most normal tasks; fast charging under two hours. Power and battery charging is available with the included DC adapter or by USB-C PD 100W power source.

ASUS describes "Military-grade durability" — in other words, less likely to suffer component failures. Unbreakable? No, but tough impact, vibration, and temperature resistance. Gorilla Glass. Any electronic device can have a defect but, in my experience, ASUS has been one of the better brands for reliability. Thorough quality assurance tested mosfets, capacitors, etc...

Opening the back panel reveals no surprises. Clean design. The internal battery pack is immediately accessible (no braces or other disassembly needed, screws only). There are no unused expansion slots, but the M.2 NVMe card would be simple to replace; one memory SODIMM is soldered while the second can also be replaced. Wide fan, dual copper cooling pipes and two heatsinks (thermal engineering looks rock solid).

Windows 11 Home is pre-installed. Bundled software includes the usual things: McAfee AV, Microsoft 365 trial, etc., and ASUS system management tools. Most of these I remove immediately, my choice, but MyASUS app has useful functions (Battery health charging is my favorite of the suite). In the box: printed user guide, warranty card, power adapter. ASUS Pen 2.0 stylus and USB-A to RJ45 (Ethernet) adapter are missing (optional separate purchases?).

[ADDENDUM]

Something I should have mentioned is the chassis does not easily smudge with fingerprints. In fact, this device should be easy to keep looking clean. The display panel's no-matte finish makes the glass reflective but just needs a wipe & shine, same as any tablet. Related however, I do find direct sunlight and reflections can interfere; 300 nits max brightness is adequate for outdoors although I would prefer more.

ASUS software audio enhancements, microphone noise-cancelling and other sound customizing settings found in MyASUS, do work well. Also forgot to say Dolby Atmos for headphones is an awesome enhancement; best results with a nice wired set but still works with any, wireless or not.

Radeon Graphics (Vega 8) is not terrible for gaming with integrated graphics. I'd say its performance is roughly equal to GeForce GT 1030 but, this is important, it is modern architecture. Efficient. It will run those good old games and even some 3D shooters decently. Surprisingly good.

SK Hynix SolidIGM P41 Plus is an average primary SSD (512GB version has mediocre read/write speeds). But know that it is a small capacity budget SSD without any shame. A weak link in the build but good everyday SSD.

I am of an age where I remember the earliest manifestations of computers such as the TRS-80 and the Commodore Vic 20. My, how far we have come. However, I will profess no expert knowledge of technical specifications.

My children are now all university age, and this is an excellent computer for student use. The 512GB hard drive is ample storage for most fields of study (maybe audio-visual and video production might need external storage capacities) as well as music and movie storage for entertainment. I am not a "gamer," so I can't comment on the gaming capabilities of the unit. But, the execution of applications for word process and general media consumption is fast and excellent.

The construction is particularly solid. It calls itself "military grade," but I don't really take that to heart. I think it just means "durable," as in, it's good for being thrown in a backpack, opened at the student lounge or bar, paired with gym clothes, and general student or commuter life. It will stand up to some regular wear and tear better than some of its counterparts.

Another great feature is the 360 degree screen ability with touch sensitivity, so this can function as a laptop or as a table/touchscreen. This is wonderful (personally, I've been using both a laptop and a tablet, and I don't like having my applications spread across two devices--I prefer this integrated model).

This model also has several ports on the side (more than the fruity competitors), so you can attach USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, audio jack and power cables. It avoids (generally) the need for additional dongles that get lost and dirty in the bottom of your bag.

I'm super happy with this product. It's excellent for student use, generally professional use, and daily home use. A very versatile machine for multiple applications.
