Sturdy laptop perfect for basic gaming, some compromises, but easy to upgrade
This laptop is an interesting contrast... it feels both very durable but also cheap in materials at the same time, using a mix of textured, matte, and glossy plastics. That being said, I expect this can live up to its "TUF" name and withstand minor drops and general wear and tear as a portable laptop. Due to its size and basic configuration I would not use this as a desktop replacement, but it's a perfect gaming PC for the trailer/campground. It runs most of the games I play (Simulator Games, Driving Games, Visual Novels, RPGs) at the native resolution at medium-to-high settings, even though it has the "old" RTX 2050. The drivers are very stable, with no issues running old and new games. Baldurs Gate 3 and Helldivers 2 needed some tweaking but still was able to achieve a solid 30-60fps in both. I found the 8gb of RAM to be limited (I like to keep a lot of tabs open), and also received a "low system memory" warning when running Forza Horizon 5 (though it was still 60-100fps!), so I decided to upgrade to 32gb DDR5 4800, which was a cinch! Asus has an online guide that takes you through the process, but once you remove the 11 screws (be mindful of the order!), and the paper covering the 2nd RAM slot it is a cinch to replace the RAM. I also added a 2nd 1TB SSD, and it's clearly labeled where to install it on the motherboard. Overall, I recommend this laptop as a basic gamer and general purpose laptop, just factor in a RAM upgrade into your budget, and you'll be more satisfied playing older/less demanding games.
