What's not to like? This CPU sits perhaps about midrange in the 5th Ryzen generation so it may not be an absolute top performer but this does not mean it is not an absolute screamer, especially compared to my 2nd gen 6core/12thread CPU it replaces. I wasn't unhappy with the old CPU, it seemed perfectly content to keep my also old 1080 card fed enough to provide over 60fps in older titles such as StarWars Fallen Order or Assassin Creed Origins/ Odyssey even set at 1440 on my big screen TV.

But at the fantastic sale in effect this Black Friday when the Ryzen 7 5700X was sold for a little less than the Ryzen 5 5600X, it made absolute sense to grab one and upgrade.

Plugging this CPU on my old Asus Prime X470-Pro (an extremely straightforward process) had the added advantage of becoming able to run my old Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3000 CL15 kit at its full advertised spec (I wasn't able to get anything over 2800 C18 with the old CPU installed) further boosting performance.

The result is not really more average fps in games as those are more bound by the GPU, especially at 1440, but rather smoother overall gameplay which is more likely indicative of a higher 1% Low (or min fps). Not too shabby for a platform that is at the end of its life and for a CPU that's rated 65W only.

Needless to say I'm happy with this upgrade which in Intel's world would have been impossible. All in all a worthwhile, wholeheartedly recommended purchase.

At this point in time with AM5 out now, this CPU still remains a very solid "bang for your buck" CPU if building a previous-gen system. I was upgrading on a budget and didn't have the need for bleeding edge performance - this CPU with a new mainboard and RAM hit the perfect sweet spot for low cost and high performance and was a very notable upgrade over my older 2700X CPU and will last me for easily another 5++ years to come! Get them while you can - I assume AM4 will continue winding down at this point.

Upgraded from a 2600x and I am very happy. This thing is a beast! Who needs the 5800x when you have this 5700x which is just as good at a much better price and has less power consumption.

If you have an older AMD cpu, this is the perfect one to upgrade to! Gaming, music stuff and windows related things are all running much better now.

Two huge thumbs up, glad I could get another cpu upgrade in before having to up grade my motherboard and ram, as I didn't have the money to do all that. This is a worthwhile upgrade!

Ryzen 7 5700X offers great base speeds with lots of cache on 8 cores, and will happily accept some tweaking and overclocking but, with it not being a flagship model, most lower- and many mid-ranged motherboards may not support the chip straight out of the box. But don't let that deter you.....

If you opt for a motherboard like mine (MSI) and face a similar issue - needing to update firmware/BIOS - don't worry. Follow the video guides on YouTube and in manuals and you'll be fine. But remember: format a new, small USB2 drive in FAT32, Google is your friend for this and for checking a partition is MBR (if you're very particular), download the exact version of BIOS required, and rename the file AND extension as directed. If you then boot from a Windows Installation Media drive, you'll get a fresh install of Windows without any bloatware or rootkits from any device manufacturer!

Very easy to install - be gentle and cautious (and consider an antistatic wristband), line up the triangles, and don't force anything. Stability is a proven strength, and Ryzen Master is a good monitoring tool; the CPU voltage remains constant after idling for several hours with core temperature peaking at 30°C. Appearance-wise? It's a chip. In an unnecessarily large box.

Upgraded, installed, and updated from Windows 10 to 11 in less than an hour. Don't forget this chip doesn't have integrated graphics, but let the CPU do CPU things and invest in a GPU of your choice.
