I bought an AKASO EK7000 for my occasional hobby - underwater filming when snorkeling. In this price range, it is a handsome tiny device with a nice set of features that I was looking for: The fisheye lens and slow-motion video mode at some resolutions. It does not provide image stabilization, but you really do not need that for underwater filming. The finish is good. The menu is intuitive. My particular device is version 5 and AKASO packed it with some extra features that I really appreciate. I will recommend this inexpensive device. Try it and you will have a lot of fun and it will help you to preserve good memories. And yes, at all the other times, the device is also designed to serve you as a dashcam for your car. Nice feature, isn't it?

Great cost benefit for the price. It's a good camera, a little grainy but it works pretty well. Sound wise it captures pretty well, specially from behind the camera. It's not a GoPro or a GoPro replacement but it's an amazing option to start with. It comes with a ton of accessories so you can use it in a bunch of different places.
One of the downsides is the date and time always showing up, which is not nice if you want to post it somewhere.

I would recommend even with the downsides as a good way to start into the world of action cams.

Basic underwater camera waterproof to recreational snorkeling depth

I will update this review after I've tried it underwater. I was looking for an underwater camera for a trip and did not want to spend too much. Picture and video quality is good and will do the job when snorkeling.

Pros: Comes with an unexpected number of attachment accessories for bike handlebar, bike helmet, and attaching to tripod or selfie stick. Easy to use. Also unit floats when in waterproof case, it has enough buoyancy. No risk it sinks to the bottom.

Cons; Photo shots take a moment to store, slower than a cellphone. However, can use burst shooting mode to capture fast changing scenes. Default mode is Video. Press mode button once to switch to Photo mode. To get back to Video mode requires either turning camera off then back on again, or stepping through 8 presses of the mode button through all the settings to return to the Video mode. Definitely a programming shortcoming.

[Update] After using the camera on my vacation while swimming and snorkling, the camera worked great, great photos and videos. I'm very happy. Easy to use, pretty good battery life when videoing, Small, easy to pack in my luggage.

Since I have more ability to edit things in post, I was looking for a simplistic sports camera without needing to pay for all the extra fancy features built-in. The media could not be loaded.

It takes pictures but getting them to your device/phone using the wifi setting is a different story.
I have had numerous emails with customer support.

Also, it starts in video mode, switching to photo mode is easy but switching back is not so easy. It means scrolling through a menu.

It is waterproof, I took it to 70 feet.

If you have time and patience, it works for the price.
