Motorola has thrown down the gauntlet with the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, priced under Rs 25,000. This handset boasts a 144Hz refresh rate display, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, 50MP dual rear cameras, a 5,000mAh battery, and more. Among the many options in this segment, its closest competitor is the OnePlus Nord CE4 (review), which features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC. For CPU and GPU-related tasks, AnTuTu favours OnePlus Nord CE4, which achieved a score of 8,19,347. In comparison, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion could only score 6,20,648. Nevertheless, the Motorola smartphone outshines its counterpart in MEM. This could be credited to the Edge 50 Fusion’s faster LPDDR5 RAM speeds as opposed to the LPDDR4X on the OnePlus Nord CE4.

Geekbench

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion almost matched the score of the OnePlus Nord CE4 on Geekbench. While the Motorola smartphone returned 1,020 in single-core and 2,945 in multi-core tests, the Nord CE4 achieved 1,138 and 2,950 in similar tests. Since the difference is only marginal, the handsets should perform similarly in completing tasks.

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion seems to be better optimised to handle intense loads than the OnePlus Nord CE4. In the Burnout test, the Moto phone throttles to 76.5 percent of its peak performance, while the OnePlus device drops to 73.1 percent.

Gaming

We tested the smartphones’ gaming performance with BGMI, Call of Duty, and Real Racing 3 at Ultra HDR, High, and Standard graphics settings, respectively. After playing the games for half an hour each, both handsets did warm up slightly, but not to an uncomfortable level. That said, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion demonstrated better thermal management than the Nord CE4. The latter heated up by roughly 23 degrees after playing the games, whereas the Edge 50 Fusion registered a spike of only 20 degrees.

Verdict

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion emerges as the preferred choice for performance-focused users. It may not possess the raw performance of the OnePlus Nord CE4, as suggested by the AnTuTu score, but the Motorola smartphone excels in thermal efficiency and maintaining performance under intense loads.
