With the aim of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into our daily lives, Meta is likely working on AI-assisted earphones with cameras. As per a new report, these earphones might provide users with contextual information about their surroundings and offer real-time translation.   • They are touted to offer AI capabilities for foreign language translation and real-time object identification.
  • As per the report, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reviewing several design concepts for the expected AI-assisted earphones.
  • However, it is currently not clear if they are over-the-ear headphones or in-ear earbuds.
  • The report mentions that Meta is exploring a new miniature camera technology in earphones with Ear Micro, an electronics company in Kansas, for this project.

There is no official confirmation about the Meta’s AI-assisted earphones. But, this is not the first time the company is developing wearables with a camera. The company also launched Snapdragon-powered Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses last year, starting at $299, which is approximately Rs 25,000. The smart glasses are yet to see a launch in India.

The smart glasses (overview) offer a 12MP ultrawide camera for photos and videos. Additionally, it allows users to send them directly to other people via their glasses with a “send a photo” voice command. They are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 Platform and are claimed to offer up to 36 hours of use with a charging case.

There were speculations that the company might bring dual camera-equipped smartwatches, but later reports said that the tech giant halted the development of the project.
