NEW DESKTOP APPS

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.8 update, we announced a new feature in development to inform users about new desktop apps. This enhancement will bring a banner to the linked devices screen, making it easier for users to notice the availability of these desktop apps and their features without missing out on important updates. Although this feature is still under development on WhatsApp beta for Android, it seems that WhatsApp is now in the process of bringing the same feature to the iOS app as well, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.8.10.73 update from the TestFlight app.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently experimenting with the addition of a banner in the linked devices screen, scheduled for release in a future update of the app. This banner will announce the availability of new desktop apps, highlighting their capacity for group calls to facilitate collaboration across different devices. Even though WhatsApp for Windows has been around for a while, WhatsApp aims to keep users updated about its features. Additionally, the Catalyst app for Mac received significant updates last year, enhancing its features to include support for group calls and expanding its capabilities for an enhanced communication across different devices.

Through the banner within the linked devices screen, we believe WhatsApp is dedicated to keeping users informed about new desktop apps by directly notifying them within the app settings. This notification might be beneficial for those who frequently use WhatsApp on their desktops and link their account to a secondary device, informing them about the convenience of having a dedicated desktop app for their operating system. We believe that introducing a banner within the linked devices screen will also enhance the visibility of these desktop apps. By prominently displaying the banner within this screen, WhatsApp aims to encourage users to explore the advantages of linking a native desktop app for an elevated messaging experience.

A feature to announce new desktop apps is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we will keep providing updates on any further developments regarding this feature until its release.
