Tough Baseline Talks Loom... Opec-plus’ immediate challenge concerns how and when to start unwinding its multilayered cuts. There is some pressure within the group to start unraveling a 2.2 million b/d tranche of voluntary measures by eight member countries, due to expire at end-June — although any such decision won't need a formal Opec-plus sign-off, since the cuts are voluntary rather than group-wide. With benchmark prices weaker and demand growth uncertain, this will not be a straightforward decision. A bigger challenge is starting to shape up for the end of the year, when the group is due to discuss and agree to new production baselines and quotas, based on independent reviews of capacity. Fortescue and Actis are moving forward on a 200,000 clean hydrogen project in Oman.
