What a weekend we had, celebrating the National Festival of Making and Margo Selby wonderful artwork! The textile installation, ‘Breathing Colour’ was suspended from the heights of Blackburn Cathedral - it was formed of 100 metres of printed and pleated fabric in celebration of our Centenary year, each single tone chosen by all 160 employees with a memory or story in mind. There was a wonderful sound piece created by Peter Coyte, accompanying the installation, with recordings from inside our factory and Morecambe Brass Band. Rebecca Pye, our Head of Design had a wonderful talk with Claire Mander, Curator of theCoLAB and National Festival of Making Board Director and Elena Jackson, Festival of Making Director & Programme Curator of Art in Manufacturing, followed by a fab live performance by Leyland Band. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the festival and if you missed it, ‘Breathing Colour’ will be on show at the 2025 Textile Biennial! The artwork was a co-commission by The National Festival of Making and The British Textile Biennial #standfastandbarracks #nationalfestivalofmaking #artinmanufacturing #britishtextilebiennial

For the past few months I have had my head down as I’ve been the artist in residence at Standfast and Barracks printed textile company as part of the Art in Manufacturing Programme - a co-commission from Elena Jackson at The National Festival of Making along with The British Textile Biennial. It’s been a challenging and intense experience: I’m creating a large scale public artwork for Blackburn Cathedral using the printing processes at Standfast and Barracks - see more info on my website https://lnkd.in/ezg5Vek3

To mark our centenary celebrations, we recently held a Design Competition for local schools and colleges to create a fabric design based on Standfast & Barracks. We are passionate about inspiring the next generation of textile designers, and engaging in our local community to give opportunities to educate and inform young people about the possibilities of a career in manufacturing, or in the creative industry.

It was a very tough decision to select just one winner from each age category, and therefore in the end, the judges decided to select three from each. The winning designs were printed onto fabric using our Ecofast digital machine, and the students were accompanied by their parents and teachers to watch them be printed, in an immersive experience here on site.

We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the students, and it has been very special to see the emerging talent and creativity on display. Our favourite moment has been watching the joy and amazement on their faces, whilst watching their beautiful designs come to life as a printed textile. #StandfastandBarracks100years #designcompetition #fabricprinting

What a day, raising money for a fantastic charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. (RNLI) A pleasurable walk with its difficulties, certainly with the lack of shade in what was a rather hot day ☀️ We have raised £345 so far with a target of £500, if anybody would like to support the RNLI, please request the link to donate. #RNLI #LIFEBOATS #Charity #baywalk #teambuilding #donate Standfast and Barracks
