Inspiring future engineers! High school students from across the UAE completed an enriching journey through a four-day boot camp with the American University of Sharjah. A series of modules were designed to provide hands-on experiences in various aspects of mechanical engineering. ✅ A Design/Build and 3D Printing module saw students learn various 3D modelling tools to create parts and assemble them. ✅ During the Let’s Make Our Own Products module, participants transformed virtual designs into tangible items using hand tools, applying their newfound skills in real-world manufacturing scenarios. ✅ The Crash Course on Mechatronics immersed the students in computational thinking and practical robotics using the Arduino Inventor Kit, while also exploring the interdisciplinary field of mechatronics. ✅ A Renewable Energy and Automotive Engineering module provided experimentation with wind turbines and explored engine design and operation by assembling a model kit. Congratulations to all 32 students from the 22 schools who participated and a big thank you to the entire AUS College of Engineering team for their continued support. Watch this video to find out more about the boot camps we’re partnering with the University to deliver 🎥 https://lnkd.in/dryVsDjr

Modern day scaffolding has come a long way from the traditional wood and rope structures, and the progress and innovation was on full display at the recently-held ScaffChamp event in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event is organised by Layher, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of scaffolding systems, and our Supervisors - Construction (Scaffolding), Jokubas Pranauskas and Sanjib Kumar Darlami Magar, were invited to the Championship. Jokubas was invited to be a judge, while Sanjib accompanied him as a participant. ScaffChamp’s origins trace back to 2019, marking its inception as the First International Scaffolders Championship in April. Held over two days, there was a flurry of activities and competitions. Jokubas made us proud by winning a silver medal in the arm-wrestling contest, and spent the next day judging, meeting scaffolding professionals from all over the world, and discussing techniques, innovations, and new ideas that he brought back to the team. Sanjib also came away with a new perspective on his work, realising how valued scaffolding is in this part of the world, and how significant his job is. John Potter, our scaffolding discipline SME for all projects, currently at the ORLEN Lithuania project, said: “We are proud of Jokubas and Sanjib. I believe that these kinds of networking opportunities open up new horizons that will help us elevate our own methods and procedures. We are already working on international standards across our projects, and this helps us bring fresh ideas into our daily work. Next year, we hope to send our own team to compete, and bring home the top spot!”

Making a difference in our communities ✅ The Venta River is Lithuania's third largest river. Located close to our Refinery Modernisation project site in Mažeikiai, it is a place of natural beauty for the local community. The ‘observation point’ was obstructed by an overgrowth of bushes, and the Municipality completed an exercise to cut them out. Our team members came together and helped clean up the riverbank, allowing people to come and enjoy the views and riverside walks. This activity is part of our contribution to the Mazeikiai city community, assisting with their needs and helping to improve the quality of outdoor spaces. Well done to everyone involved 👏 Learn more about the project and our strong focus on sustainability 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUXWmyta #csr #sustainability

Ali Abdulla AlAli, our UAE Country Chair, and Dr Irshad Laghari, our HSSE Manager, were invited to share their expertise at HSE EXPO 2024, organised by Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC). The event, which was themed Enhancing Workplace HSE Practices, brought together professionals, experts, and industry leaders to discuss how we can all enhance our commitment to health, safety, and environmental stewardship. Ali spoke about building a positive safety culture, a key pillar in a generative organisation. Creating an environment and culture where individuals anticipate potential danger, mitigate risks, and accept incidents as an opportunity for improvement is essential for workplace safety. Dr Irshad participated in a panel discussion on ‘Occupational Health Surveillance: Tools and Techniques for Monitoring Workplace Health,’ where he spoke about how to best prepare for the challenges and best practices involved in monitoring workplace health. Other panellists included experts from SNOC, the University of Sharjah, and GMC.

'Our immediate challenge isn't simply about transitioning to alternative energy sources. It is also about reducing the carbon intensity of existing energy sources, which we are acutely aware will be needed in the medium term to maintain energy security.' - Margaret Muller. Our Head of Sustainability and Environment, Margaret, shares the four levers we are actively using to reduce the carbon intensity of today's energy-producing assets while building the cleaner energy-producing assets of tomorrow. Our team is enjoying the buzz at this year's World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam #WorldHydrogen2024. So far, it's clear that the market is settling, becoming more mature, and clearly starting to transition into projects that will start to pass FID (Final Investment Decision).    Here are our team's reflections so far: ✅ Aligning with what we have observed for some time, blue hydrogen is fundamental in bridging the gap to green, benefiting from where infrastructure for blue already exists. Developers' presence linking CCS with hydrogen manufacture is strong. ✅ We are past the era of 'hype', with those less realistic projects falling away leaving investable projects that require pre-FEED, FEED and eventual EPC. All areas where we add value to projects. ✅ Supportive policy and initial funding from various Governments are already in place, specifically in Rotterdam, where there appears to be huge demand from off-takers in the region. Thanks to the Sustainable Energy Council for curating such a strong event. Find out how we are directing our engineering and project management expertise to advance a range of hydrogen projects 👇  https://lnkd.in/eZpSKyGw #EnergyTransition #Hydrogen
