About us
We are enabling children around the world to get creative with technology and invent in school, in clubs and at home! The micro:bit is a handheld, fully programmable computer given to every Year 7 child across the UK - and now being used around the world. It’s 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original BBC Micro computers used in schools in the early 1980s. Started by the BBC and a great team of partners, the Micro:bit Educational Foundation is a non-profit organisation.

Head of APAC Waris Candra was thrilled to attend The Nantou County Government's first do your: bit Hackathon with Guangfu Elementary School in Taiwan. More than 100 Elementary and Junior High schools participated in this event, with 24 finalists competing at the hackathon final. Finalists displayed the props, computers, posters and other elements of their project and personally explained the use of the micro:bit and their creative concepts. Each proposal not only integrated SDGs, but also used technology and aimed to solve problems in the community. A Pinglin Elementary School team won the Presidential Education Award this year. They developed a "smart anti-fall walking cane", which is equipped with a sensor device and a time step alarm buzzer. It can not only track the amount of exercise of the elderly, but also In the event of a fall, the crutch will also send a message to the preset emergency contact person or care unit as a warning. The successful event was also featured on local news: https://lnkd.in/dmxBt8fw showing how popular do your :bit challenges are in combining creativity, problem solving and technology. Huge congratulations to all who took part 👏 👏 👏 👏 #microbit #MicrobitChampions #doyourbit #DoYourBitWithMicrobit #SDGS #GlobalGoals #sustainability #STEMeducation #STEAM #STEM

We joined the National STEM Festival, with EXPLR Media and the U.S. Department of Education, to bring the creativity of the micro:bit to even more people throughout the US. The National STEM Challenge encouraged U.S. students in grades 6-12 to develop a STEM project that tackles a real-world challenge. The top 150 National Champions headed to the National STEM Festival in Washington, D.C., co-presented by the U.S. Department of Education and EXPLR, to showcase their projects to some of the US’s most influential leaders. With support from Jim Egenreider from Virginia Tech and Invent VA, the workshop was facilitated by KID Museum, Liza Manfred and Annalise Phillips and hosted by Mckinley Institute Of Tech, whose students supported educators in the workshop as well as demonstrated their projects at the school. Kari Byron, co-founder of EXPLR Media with Jenny Buccos, and former host of Mythbusters, also attended and helped attendees get hands-on with the micro:bit. ✨ Teaching children about AI can be challenging, but starting with Machine Learning is a great way to get pupils to understand the tech around them. CBBC presenter, Tilly, tells us more about why she has such an interest in AI and how we can help pupils get started 🦾. 👉 Two of the BBC micro:bit Playground Survey activities allow you to explore the concept of machine learning with your class 💻. They are designed to be a straightforward introduction to this topic. 1⃣ Tracking our physical activity - wear micro:bits in the playground! An exciting whole class data collection activity that uses the BBC micro:bit as a wearable activity tracker to identify pupil’s physical movements in the school playground 🏃♂️. https://lnkd.in/d5Srz52d 2⃣ Exploring machine learning - use 2 micro:bits to create an ML model! An active & engaging data collection activity that uses the micro:bit machine learning tool to demonstrate how real-world data samples are used to train machine learning models 💻. https://lnkd.in/dKGTtqdh Head to BBC Teach to learn more about the BBC micro:bit Playground Survey and how you can get involved with a fun nationwide activity this summer term. #primaryteachers #BBCPlaygroundSurvey #primaryschools #ks2 #microbitChampions #primaryteacher #primaryschool
