About us
We’re a global community of users and developers that work with Linux-based OS's. We aim to use this LinkedIn page to enable individuals of all skill levels with a place to say hello to each other, provide help where they can, and ask others if they need assistance. Linux Community is suited to news, guides, questions concerning the GNU/Linux operating system and to a lesser degree, free/open-source in general. All things Linux and GNU/Linux -- this is neither an exclusively about the kernel Linux, nor is exclusively about the GNU operating system. Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

The US cybersecurity agency CISA on Thursday warned organizations that threat actors are actively exploiting a recent vulnerability in the Linux kernel. Linux kernel versions between 5.14 and 6.6 are affected by the flaw, with the underlying issue potentially affecting all kernel iterations starting with version 3.15. Patches were released in February 2024, with AlmaLinux, Debian, Gentoo, Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu confirmed to be impacted. Other Linux distributions might be vulnerable as well. #linux #kernel #cisa #linuxcommunity #AlmaLinux #Debian #Gentoo #RedHat #SUSE, #Ubuntu https://lnkd.in/dpHYSdrb

Manjaro is an interesting attempt to take the rolling-release Arch Linux distribution and mold it into something smoother and more stable. We wrote about Arch for its 20th anniversary, and we've also looked at a couple of the most prominent Arch derivatives, Endeavour OS and Garuda Linux. Like Arch itself, these are both rolling-release projects, with daily updates. Garuda brings Btrfs snapshot support, like that found in openSUSE Tumbleweed, so if an update breaks your system, you can roll back to an older snapshot and get working again quickly. #linux #linuxcommunity #Manjaro #arch https://lnkd.in/g8fTtPHv

Linux 6.9 is now the latest stable kernel and Ubuntu users can install it on their machines via the official Ubuntu Mainline Kernel PPA archive. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do that using GUI or CLI methods. Linux kernel 6.9 was released on May 12th, 2024, with Rust support for AArch64 (ARM64) architectures, support for the Intel FRED (Flexible Return and Event Delivery) mechanism for improved low-level event delivery, support for AMD SNP (Secure Nested Paging) guests, as well as numerous other new and updated drivers for better hardware support. #linux #linuxcommunity #ubuntu #kernel https://lnkd.in/dunhExMx

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS released on April 25 but the distro developers delayed direct upgrades to the recent version due to bugs – one serious. Though those issues weren’t universal (lots of folks upgraded through the command-line without issue) the risk was there. #linux #linuxcommunity #ubuntu https://lnkd.in/gjxqNGMG

Some software developers and companies are considering whether the open-source movement is at a crossroads and needs to change direction. Open-source software (OSS), which originated in the 1960s with the advent of large-scale commercial computers, came bundled with freely distributed source code. Today, OSS is ubiquitous, thriving across all industries worldwide and even within proprietary systems. It is released under a jungle of licenses that grant users various rights to use, study, change, and distribute the software freely and allow anyone to review source code. https://lnkd.in/gGmMZCdm #linux #linuxcommunity
