Businesses at the Heart of Peterborough ⛪ Last night local businesses gathered at the Peterborough Cathedral to have valuable discussions with the Chamber and other attendees ahead of the General Election. Local Chair Mike Greene (Success Is A System) chaired the evening and spoke very passionately about the role Peterborough has to play in the success of the region. We heard from Jan Armitage the Chief Operating Officer of the Cathedral about some of the successes and challenges of the popular heritage site. Including how the way VAT works for them is different from a regular business. They can only claim back 13% VAT rather than the usual 20% which hits their bottom line and is something they would like to see changed. Andrew Carter the Chief Executive for Centre for Cities delivered an impartial and informative talk about the statistics behind the city. The stats show that Peterborough in many ways is doing quite well against the national average but has some areas for improvement especially in regards to skills, the city centre, and connectivity. Everyone then split off into smaller groups to discuss the wants and needs of local businesses from a future government, this is what they said: Solve the skills shortage 🛠 Improve transport infrastructure 🚍 Increase confidence in the political system ☝ More affordable housing 🏚 Cross-party collaboration on the most important issues 🤝 And many more... The Chamber has been the voice of businesses in the region for over a century and will continue to advocate for positive change at all levels of government. Come and join us at our next Peterborough event – https://lnkd.in/eWMu5UUu #cambschamber #chambernetwork

The Voice of Business 🗣 Last week Chamber Members came together for a private roundtable with Cambridgeshire County Council Chief Executive Stephen Moir to discuss the state of trade and how the County Council can support local businesses. A wide range of topics were covered such as: Transport Infrastructure 🚍 Education and Skills 🏫 Planning 🏗 Health and Wellbeing ❤️ Recruitment and Retention 😁 These conversations are critical to ensuring that our Local Authority partners are informed about the needs of businesses so that they can take appropriate action to provide support. This event was kindly hosted by IKO Waterproofing and Insulation EU at their Alconbury Weald facility supported by Urban&Civic.
