Malaysia’s first non-political education minister, Musa Mohamad, dies at 81, laid to rest in Kota Damansara

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Former Education Minister Tan Sri Musa Mohamad was laid to rest at 10.40am today at the Islamic Cemetery Section 9 in Kota Damansara.

Prior to the burial, his remains were taken to the Kota Damansara Mosque for the customary washing and shrouding, followed by funeral prayers led by his son-in-law, Mohd Nordin Mat Sah.

The burial was attended by over 50 people, including family members, relatives, and acquaintances. Mohd Nordin expressed his gratitude to all those who assisted with the funeral arrangements.

Tan Sri Musa Mohamad, 81, also a former vice-chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, passed away last night at 7:12 PM at a private medical centre in Petaling Jaya due to multiple myeloma cancer.

He was the first non-politician to hold the position of education minister from 1999 to 2004. In addition to his service at Universiti Sains Malaysia, he held several significant positions, including president of the International Association of Education Ministers from 2001 to 2003, chairman of Multimedia University, and chairman of the UCSI University Council.
