Motorola Moto G85 is launching in India next week with faster charging

03 July 2024
It's powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC.

James Holden, 03 Jul 2024Oh its nothing compared to the past when snapdragon and med... more625 was revolutionary in a lot of ways, it used to stay remarkably cool, it was aleady on 12nm process while the competition and Qualcomm itself still flaunted 28 nm chips.
660 came quite later so can't compare to it.

Massively efficient and cool, and reasonable performer it surely was, in a market where a decent chipset choice was missing.
And you could do 4K30 back then with stereo audio recording.

And I don't recall lags after installing a few apps, in fact, mine was a Snapdragon 410 enabled Redmi 2 Prime.
I do recall lags after installing few system updates though, so that's that.

A7x Cores or whatever, but a hardware artifically crippled by Qualcomm's management level decisions, is a no-no in my opinion.
Ahh... how I wish engineers would run the company, and not MBA's or governments..!

Moto G85 is a very good looking phone and lightweight too which I prefer. I also like the vegan leather finish on the back and the colours. G85 looks identical to Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, but specs are worse in many key aspects: Yes, Fusion costs a little bit more, but is much better phone overall: Sony LYT-700 main camera is really very good, 13mp ultrawide lens is also an upgrade and has autofocus and doubles as a great macro camera. SD 7s Gen 2 is more powerful and can record 4K videos (G85 can't), Fusion will get updates longer 3+4 years (=3 Android upgrades/4yrs security updates) vs only 2+3 on Moto G85.

Anonymous, 03 Jul 2024just a repackaged sd 695 again... and after 3 long years of torture it raised its ugly head again... like a devil in disguise, with a new name! 🧟‍♂️. No 4K video recording support in 2024 is unbelievable = SD695 = 6s Gen 3. I just can't believe that OnePlus just released Nord CE 4 Lite with SD 695 !!! 3rd year in a row with the "most hated Snapdragon ever" is almost beyond belief! SD 695 was in Nord CE 2 Lite (2022), Nord CE 3 Lite (2023) and now in Nord CE 4 Lite (2024).

Smooth swiping, no hard edges on the left and right sides? Typing this on a curved OnePlus 12 screen and it's a pleasure.

Also 7s Gen 2 has four A78 cores, not two. Sadly it isn't as good and efficient as the 778G from three years ago.

ARM V9 cores (A7xx-5xx) are said to be expensive... Maybe that has been dragging its adoption, since it is basically restricted to the high end market. For the proper midrange market I think only Dimensity 8300 snd SD 7 Gen 3 have ARM v9 cores. 7+ and 8s series are a bit cut down versions of their flagship counterparts and are priced as such, except for stuff like the Poco F6.

IP52 on the G85 is a step back from the IP54 on the G84.

Remember Snapdragon 625 era? There was the 660 with powerful A73 cores, but they preferred to use mediocre A53 cores on the 625, and many smartphones had that chip.

Those were the worst parts of SoC design. You would've got laggy phones after installing just a couple of apps. At least the 695 and 6 gen 3/7s gen 2 have a couple of A78 cores. It will probably go on for a while before the 6 series gets the Cortex A700 and A500 cores.

At least you got 3 watts extra in charging, tell me what extra power you got from Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, compared to 695?

                                        >Faster charging
                                        > 33w from 30w

That extra 3 watts is pretty remarkable. Your 30w charging will take 2 hours whereas your 33w shortens that to an extra hour. Very impressive. No h8 m8 I r8 8/8
