Microsoft unveils $1,000 Surface Laptop with Snapdragon X chip, Copilot+

The laptops come in 13.8" and 15" sizes and are powered by either the Snapdragon X Plus or X Elite, Qualcomm's new AI-focused Windows-on-ARM chipsets.

As expected efficiency is worse than Apple, the GPU is worse than Intel or AMD and it gets penalized when running x86 software.

ATM it's just an overpriced, soldered RAM piece of e-waste.

You can buy laptops with Ryzen 7 8845HS and 32GB of RAM for 700 euro....

    Tracking is a bit of a pickle BUT, no biggie.

    Windows beeing what it is today, we can disable (or completly remove) so many features using third party tweakers from shady - more or less - developers.

    See bloatware solutions all over internet for example.

        Also tweakers are open source widely stared on GitHub. And you can still do it by hand if you really paranoid.

        Also I removed those telemetry in scheduler by hand tool so easy. I also add firewall rules for Shaddy stuff like one-click office.

        In Apple macos and iOS it's all hard-coded. Any one-click on store send 100jb of JSON private data. And that whatever telemetry you disabled.

        But people are people, seems people, and like you buying expensive closed 'licked down' apple stuff. I respect that, just not my thing, and will never be. I buy sometimes renewed apple stuff just to see, and have always that same feeling again and again. Being a real ( i mean, not a python-php and all kind of scripters hihi) dev for too many years.

They'd try from time to time to push stuff but they let it easy to work around.

            Using macos or win is like being locked down in prison of being free to me. The only advantage of having apple is they give competition for their procs. Thanks people buying expensive walled garden Apple's laptops so i can have a great one for a reasonable price a bit later on.

                It's not like those mac stuff where you're in prison walled garden and everything is proprietary hard coded, win is fairly easy to tweak very deeply, even open to Linux among other things. Not perfect and philanthropic I don't stay that, but more than good enough.

                  I suppose then it's a very good laptop and a lot more open and at a cheaper price ( even with cheap 64gb offer, hey Mac users..).

It can run from 25 to 80 Watts, most devices will run at 45 Watt (when the Performance profile is selected), fanless devices use 12 Watts, so even less than the M-chips.

                        I'm excited to see third party AI features using the NPU, but I dread the Recall "feature" and other stuff built into the OS itself, which are totally unnecessary and privacy invasive.

                            If copilot takes up 4gigs of ram, just by running in the background, these machines should start at 32gb ram. THey’re not much different from apple with their picing lol.
