Production ready Avatr 07 photographed in China

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Avatr is preparing to launch its latest EV, the Avatr 07. This mid-sized electric SUV is designed to challenge the dominance of the Tesla Model Y. Set to launch by the end of June this year, the Avatr 07 sports a striking design, impressive performance specs, and a competitive starting price of under $29,000.

Visually, the Avatr 07 follows the design language established by its siblings, the Avatr 11 SUV and the Avatr 12. A two-tier LED running light setup adorns the front, while the headlights seamlessly integrate into the bumper. The rear features wide, narrow taillights, a broad third brake light, and a small roof spoiler.

The Avatr 07 will be available in both all-electric and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions, catering to a broader audience. The BEV variant packs a powerful punch with dual electric motors – a rear motor from Deepal and a front motor from Chongqing Tsingshan Industrial – delivering a combined output of 440 kW (590 hp). It can reach a top speed of 124 mph and is powered by an LFP battery pack from CATL, unfortunately we don’t have details of its capcity.

The EREV version, on the other hand, features a 1.5-liter engine by Changan with 115 kW (154 hp) of peak power, complemented by a single or dual electric motor setup, depending on the model. The total power output reaches up to 362 kW (485 hp). A 39 kWh LFP battery provides an electric range of 117 miles, and the top speed is 118 mph.

Measuring 190 inches in length, 78 inches in width, and 63.8 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 115.7 inches, the Avatr 07 is slightly larger than the Tesla Model Y. However, its starting price significantly undercuts its American rival.

Avatr, a joint venture between Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, is determined to carve out a significant share of the competitive Chinese EV market. The company aims to expand its sales network to 470 showrooms this year, combining direct and dealership channels to boost sales and brand presence.
