I like the price on the 14 inch but don't like the idea of only 18 gb of ram.

Isn't it a bit early for a spec bump on a late 2023 model?
I wouldn’t expect an M4 update until October/November 2024, but not later than Black Friday if Apple has M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max ready to ship in volume for the MacBook Air, Pro and Mac mini. I suspect the iMac and Mac Studio might not be updated until March of 2025 to allow time to get the M4 Ultra into production. Apple may even skip M4 in the iMac as well and wait until the M5.

What… Tim is still throwing them out the back of that van?

What a way to clear inventory and increase market share.

But still no one is interested in Vision Pros he tried to hand out. He tried to slide one out with a MacBook box but the guy twigged and said no mate, I don’t want one of those. It’s huge anyway, got no room in the car for it.

Every time I see one of the sales, it makes me more convinced than ever that m4 Mac’s are coming this fall.

I think it’s more about poor sales. M4 is coming irrespective id guess. In any case they might hope it increases sales… but I’d doubt it.

But for most customers an M4 is overkill. Except for specific use cases.

Given the minor spec bump year over year from M1 Pro ➡️ M2 Pro ➡️ M3 Pro, I’d expect another minor spec increase for M4 Pro. Apple really blew us out of the water with the M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra. Everything subsequently has been iterative, which is fine.

Normally. So either they need M4 for the AI performance, or all those 8 GB machines are not AI capable unless you upload everything to iCloud so Apple's servers can crunch the data there. Or some combination of them.
