"Introduction To Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023" The major criminal laws have seen an overall change with the introduction of three new criminal laws viz. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 to replace the existing Indian Penal Code, 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and Indian Evidence Act, 1872 respectively. This course offers a overview of the changes introduced in the Indian Penal Code and deals with offence and punishment related reforms.

"Description"

The reforms/changes introduced in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 have been covered in this course. The course provides a general overview of reforms, touches upon the changes introduced in ‘offence relating to woman and child’, deals with reforms in ‘offences affecting human body’, and discusses the changes with respect to ‘offence against the State’, ‘Contempt of the lawful authority of public servants’, ‘Offence relating to religion’ etc. The course also examines the reforms in the ‘offence against property’ and the punishment related reforms.

Target audience: Criminal law touches upon life of every individual. Any change in this domain needs to be properly understood and appreciated. The officers of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) dealing with these laws on daily basis are the primary target group, however, other public servants may also be benefited with this course.

Learning outcomes:

   To acquaint the learners with the changes introduced in the IPC.
   To expose the learners to the deleted offences and the newly introduced offences in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
   To expose the learners the underlying philosophy of punishment and the related reforms.

Pre-requisite: A basic understanding of the provisions of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code, 1860 is required.
